Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location Disadvantages: Views from room
a question to be faced with either, a non speaking recipient, or a down right rude English person. A simple polite answer is all that?s required and if that?s too hard don?t do the job. Lastly is food ? good food, goes without say8ing doesn?t it?
The Strand Palace hotel has some 783 rooms on some nine floors (I counted them all!) And having spied in several others I was convinced they were all up to the standard of my own room. I booked my weekend theatre break through Superbreak for a cost of £196 for two persons the price included full English breakfast.
~~~Our room~~~
We arrived at our second floor room and slid the credit card style key into the slot and waited for the green light ? you know the standard stuff. The first thing you notice as you enter into the room is the darkness. There is a main light so we flicked the switched but ...
Advantages: Easily accessible, imposing interior, great food Disadvantages: You need to look carefully to find it
The other day I was invited to a presentation lunch at Gibson Hall on Bishopsgate just a short walk from Liverpool Street Station. I wasn't sure what to expect but, eager to support the site agent on one of our sites when he went to collect his award as a Considerate Constructor, I set off for London in eager anticipation.
Armed with a map and an address I headed off down Bishopsgate looking for the Hall. Knowing it was a number 13 was a guide but it turned out (for some reason) to be just a few doors away from number 99!
The entrance appeared to be nothing special, just a large doorway set on the corner of a street, as I got inside I was greeted by a smallish hallway and a small sign directing me to the event I was attending. I followed the passageways, down the stairs and along past the cloakrooms, I finally came to ...
Advantages: Excellent central location; good bars and restaurants Disadvantages: Rooms a bit old fashioned; a little pricey
" - the inner courtyard of the hotel with the humming air conditioners at the bottom. I can live (or sleep) with that, but there was also an awful rattling, like pipes, coming from somewhere in the ceiling. We went back downstairs to complain, and were told there were no other rooms. After standing our ground they eventually checked us in to an alternative room on the 4th floor. A little bigger, but still not brilliant - probably "average", from past business stays down in London hotels. The reception staff weren't particularly friendly, as other reviews have mentioned.
Despite being "club" rooms, all that appeared to be different was the decor. Instead of old-fashioned wall-to-wall flowerey decor and furnishings, it was plain duck-egg walls, and a "modern" bed (faux-leather headboard and plain brown and green blankets). Not worth the extra money ...
