At the centre of the village is StPeter's Church, which dominates the village. The entrance to this is best accessed via Japp Lane and the spire of this Church can be seen from many miles away.
This Church was built in 1870 and was originally created as a place of worship for the Duke of Devonshire, his family and his staff. Today the current Duke and Duchess still use this Church as their regular place of worship and they can often be found here during Sunday service.
For such a relatively modern Church this is quite a grand affair. It has an architectural style that predates its true origin by a couple of centuries and there are wonderful stained glass windows and lots of fancy gold decorations on both the inside and the outside of the Church. I stayed in the Hotel Michelangelo while on a work trip to Rome in December 2007 and i can't fault the hotel. We were holding a conference in their meeting rooms and they were nothing short of amazing in terms of helping us plan the event.
As a place to stay, the hotel was perfect. The bedrooms were really large. I had a twin room to myself and it was massive. i'm not sure how much we paid for the rooms, but as a charity, i know it wouldn't have been over the odds, so i think it was excellent value for money and helped make our conference such a success. The breakfasts were brilliant and plentiful and the buffet lunch we had was great.
The hotel is in the perfect spot for sightseeing in Rome. We arrived late at night, but headed straight out to explore the city - easy to do with such a perfect location right next to StPeter ...
