...Rome must be the most beautiful city in the whole world. Full of magical sights, history, art culture and beautiful guys. Cosidering its image of being the Catholic Capital of the world, Rome has an interesting and diverse gay culture. Newcomers might find this gay culture an inaccessible world given Italian Mens difficulty in accepting the homosexuality, however it is there and certainly worth seeking out.
An essential companion is the Italian Scene Gay Guide published by the gay mens press.
I stayed in the Hotel Campo Dei Fiori and very nice hotel just off a beautiful sqaure and not far from the Poazza Navona. The hotel offered good value for money considering its very central and convenient location around 180,000Lire for a double room.

...Since there already plenty of positive comments on Rome here, I thought it is better to give you some useful addresses. I start with my favourite, which is also a well know meeting spot for locals. It is a place where dei sell ice-creams: "Gelateria Giolitti" in Via degli Uffici del Vicario 40. Otherwise, during the day you can just enter a shop where they sell food and ask them to prepare a sandwich for you with some local ham. Very cheap...

...Top websites -
www.enjoyrome.com for excellent walking tours. Particularly recommended are the Vatican tour (too daunting to do by yourself) and the Evening tour around ancient Rome - superb for orienting yourself on your first night in the eternal city.
www.venere.com for accommodation needs
www.twenj.com for a personal take on Rome by two American tourists, full of incredibly useful information.
Favourite restaurants -
Costanza - hidden away in the very tiny Piazza Paradisio (next to the Campo Di Fiore). The courgette Flower risotto there is my favourite dish in the world - ever. It's built amongst the ruins of Pompeii's theatre, where Caesar was murdered...Directions:
Close to the church Sant'Andrea delle Valle on Corso
Vittorio Emanuele. Not far from Campo dei Fiori.
(Note: some tourist maps don't show Piazza Paradiso...
