Advantages: Good Location Disadvantages: Overrated
...Fullerton is the latest addition to the luxury hotels in the city and even Martine McCutcheon stayed in Fullerton Hotel last time when she was in Singapore!
The Fullerton Building was built in 1928 and has housed the General Post Office, the Exchange, The Chamber of Commerce and The Singapore Club. The most recent occupants were the Singapore Post, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, and a branch of the POSBank.
The Fullerton Hotel enjoys a fabulous location right in front of the Merlion. It is also very close to The Esplanade, the newly opened music and theatre venue. There is an underpass from Fullerton Hotel to One Fullerton which has restaurants and nightclubs.
There are five resutaurants in the hotel. The Courtyard, Lighthouse , Town, The Post Bar and Jade.THe Courtyard is the lobby lounge and the Lighthouse restaurant has...

Advantages: Singapore Slings History of Raffles Disadvantages:
...A must visit when you go to Singapore is the Raffles Hotel. If you are loaded you may actually like to stay in one of the classic colonial rooms, however, if you aren't in the money like me then just visit the long bar. In the long bar you can sip delicious Singapore Slings ( at about £7 a glass) and eat monkey nuts to your hearts content. Beware Singapore Slings are much more alcoholic than they taste!
Remember to look about the hotel before you get too drunk, there is a museum in the hotel and the history about Raffles is everywhere. The cricket club is another very British institution still evident in Singapore.
A good hotel to stay in close to the colonial area is the Westin...

Advantages: Clean. Cheap. Lots of shopping choice. Calm. Spacious. Well planned. Disadvantages: Eventually you have to get on a cramped airplane and leave
...purchases until I'm flying through Changi as there are usually good deals if you know what you want.
There are plenty of internet access points and you can plug your laptop in too. There's also a 'snail' mail post office and a good choice of different food styles in the cafe area.
The only complaint I have is the price of beer in the bars but Singapore in general is an expensive place to drink so that is to be expected.
Overall this should be a model for other airports. It's about the only one I actively look forward to spending a few hours in.
Changi - It's almost a destination in itself!
PS (added after Karens comment) On the one occasion that I have actually begun a journey in Singapore the check-in at Changi was swift and efficient for me, the staff were courteous and polite and the whole experience was considerably less painful than...

I have stayed in a few Singapore hotels, and generally the standard is extremely good, so I was surprised to be so disappointed with The Miramar. I chose it because I was on a stopover and got a cheap deal. As I have seen the sights of Sing before,... more
