..down memory lane. Ah yes 5th avenue, a place I have frequented many times and have had many a good laugh. Trying to write a review on clubs like this can be hard, especially as sometimes good nights have been had in there for the simple reason that I have been in there with about 10, or so, like-minded people. (By like-minded, I mean people who have a broad taste in indeie music, like to drink cheap booze, and plumb the depths of humiliation in order to impress women). Also I can honestly say I have never been there entirely sober, so if this review seems likes a series of hazy recollections, do forgive me.
The music. The music is broadly "indie", but that shouldn't really put you off. Yes Oasis, the Stone Roses, Blur, The Charlatans etc, are played regularly, but the DJ doesn't try to diversify a bit. Anything from Northern Soul, Rave, Big Beat, to Ska, Punk, and 60s Classics are played. Anything really that is a bit left of centre. Yes there is an obvious slant towards Manchester bands, with even obscure Manc bands like Northside and the Mock Turtles getting played regularly. But then it is a club in Manchester and you should be happy to be receiving an education in musical taste. The only criticism that can be levelled is that if you go regularly you will find a lot of songs being played that you heard the previos time you went. But hey you've always wanted to learn the words for "Sally Cinnamon", haven't you?
The booze. Depending on what night you go, 5th avenue can be spectacularly cheap. The cheapest night is Thursday, where the most expensive drink is £1, and most bottles are 50p. This makes Thursday the most popular and lockouts by 12pm are common. Friday is bit more expensive, with the cheapest drinks being £1. Saturday is the most expensive night, understandably really, but the prices still compare favourably with most other places in Manchester. Finally there is "Monday Madness", and madness is exactly what it is to have a night on monday, considering it hardly ever gets that busy. Still if its booze you want, 5th avenue is one of the few clubs in Manchester where its possible to drink a lot without having to take out a second mortgage.
The Venue. Functional is how 5th Avenue is best described. It is a place that merely facilitates drinking and dancing. There is only one room, though it does have an upstairs bit, and it won't win any any architecture prizes. The floor is covered in beer and doubtless you new pair of white trainers will come out black at the end of the night. "Style" is not really a word in the 5th Avenue vocabulary, but then again neither is "pretension", a welcome change if you've ever been out in indie places in Lo*d*n.
The People. The people in 5th avenue are a mixed bag, from students to scallies to oldies to indie music officiandos. One of the cast of Hollyoaks was spotted once, and to be fair things can sometimes get a bit hairy, especially on Thursday nights when the world and his wife seem to want to sample 50p beers. In general though people want to have a good time and although girls are outnumbered by boys it can vary greatly. Most people go simply to listen to music that isn't endless 70s/80s/90s cheese.
Overall. 5th Avenue is the most popular indie venue in Manchester, and one of the cheapest clubs in Manchester. It is unfussy, unpretentious and exists purely as a venue for drinking and dancing. Don't go if your ideal night out consists of drinking Chardonnay and discussing Proust and Jackson Pollock.
Advantages: good music, cheap drinks, fun nights out Disadvantages: -
...people recommending this club called 5th Avenue I had to give it a try as I needed a good night out. 5th Avenue is a club which has been around for a while but still has a reputation of being a great night out and having the cheapest drinks in town and of course it is mainly known for being one of the best indie clubs around and since my preferred musical taste is indie this sounded like heaven for me. I first went here on a Saturday night but the ... ...other than that it seemed to pass quick and moved along quite well. I like how security are always watching for people skipping the queue here because I can’t stand waiting for a while to see people pushing in but luckily this isn’t really an issue here.
So the cost to get in before 11 is £2 on a Saturday with a flyer or NUS card and £3 after 11pm with the NUS or a flyer which to me isn’t really expensive at all compared to what some clubs charge. ...

Advantages: cheap throughout the week, good music, busy but not too busy, foam parties, friendly staff Disadvantages: glass bottles on floor, expensive at weekend, samey music if go too often
5th Avenue-THE no1 indie experience (5th/5th ave as known by locals) not what it says on the tin 5th avenue has a different price range and supposedly music depending on the dsay which you go. Monday and Wednesday are the cheapest nights whereas it gets expectedly more expensive at weekends but the music is basically the ame songs played everynight, I managed to go for 3 night in a row in one week and by the 3rd I never wanted to hear some of the ... ...from 5th avenue and have never heard of them in society. ---Monday Madness--- Probably one of the best 5th Ave nights, 2 free drinks upon entry before 10:30 which usualy consist of 2 vouchers, 1 for an alcopop and 1 for a beer so you usually see the girls and the lads swapping beer for alcopop tickets. i myself have been given a few free alcopops/vouchers by lads just because they don't drink them, sometimes they have themes monday madness nights ...

Advantages: cheap, great music Disadvantages: a bit dull decor
5th Avenue has gained a reputation as one of the most popular student clubs in Manchester, and with good reason, the drinks are cheap, the tunes are good (and very loud) and the dresscode is relaxed. Result - the club gets packed and the atmosphere is great.
The club is quite large, it is basement level, with an upstairs bar, and balcony for viewing the dancefloor antics. The dancefloor itself is a little on the small side, but as there are very ... ...and is only £1)
5th avenue is an excellent alternative to 'townie' clubs such as infinity and picadilly 21's. The music is more indie, cheesy 80's and 60's/70's music like the Beatles, Blondie etc, and a few dance tunes. One word of warning though, 5th ave regulars have a joke that the DJ, Ade, has only one tape as the songs he plays are usually the same on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. His usual mix is something like 2 stone roses ...

Advantages: cheap beer, awesome music, great nostalgic atmosphere Disadvantages: quite dark and dingy, but hey, that's what indie clubs are meant to be like!
...us to stay. 5th avenue continues to proviide many people with a quality night out., providing a wide array of music to cater for most 'alternative' tastes.
located close to town, 5 mins walk from oxford road, where the buses run 24 hours, the location is good. It is down the road from canal street where the gay community socialise, but you won't find many gays here!
5th ave is legend amongst students and weds has always been student night where ... ...people do not dance in 5th ave, they just hold their bottle and sort of move from side to side (Think liam gallacher). Blatantly everyone is having an amazing time, which is why the atmosphere is so great.
As for the music on a weds night, it is a variety of music, oasis, stone roses, james, phonics, nikelback, the smiths, nirvana, rage. Usually they play student anthems such as 'billy jean' and 'build me up buttercup' and 'set you free' by n trance. ...

Advantages: Cheap Drinks, Great Music Disadvantages: A Little Hot,
5th Ave is a great place for a cheap great night out. The music ranges from Indie, Nu Metal, Brittish Pop, Trance, Rock, 70's & 80's, including Razorlight, Bloc Party, Faithless, Pulp, Rage Against The Machine, The Killers, Hot Hot Heat, Blur & Reef. The drinks range from 80p - £2 which cannot be argued with! You can get drunk for £10, or if you are a lightweight, £4 with drinks like Castlemaine, Fosters, all the spirits, alcopops, Carlsberg, Becks ... ...Most of the people in 5th Ave are great, you can talk to most people as they are all easy going & plesant, unless they are very drunk, where they will be useless & you will be having a conversation by yourself!! I went to 5th Ave last Saturday, & was kicked out at 3 o clock {when it closes, not because I am bad!} The time went so quickly, talking to some new people, dancing & singing. It is a really good night out if your into the music & into cheap ...

Advantages: fair drink prices, vending machine, very clean Disadvantages: samey music, can get quite busy, not enough seating
I used to be totally into the Indie scene but now Ive been more influenced into rock but a friend asked if I wanted to go to 42nd Street and I had always heard good things so I decided to head on down.
Its situated on bootle St in deansgate just off the main road. The entrance is plainly just a door with the flatboars sign with the 42nd street logo so if you didnt know what youwas looking for it could be pretty hard to find.
The club is upstairs of the building so there are a few stairs and therefore not really suitable for those in a wheelchair or difficulties with climbing stairs such as crutches.
The entrance fee wasn't that bad, I paid £4 after 10:30pm with an NUS card which is about the same as 5thAvenue and other clubs.
The dancefloor is located in the middle of the room between two bars and lit up with UV lights and some disco so ...

Advantages: location, location, location Disadvantages: not as luxurious as some might prefer
Located in an ideal location in Midtown Manhattan (W.33rd Street between 5thAvenue and Broadway), The Wolcott is a perfect base for a first trip to Manhattan, only blocks away from Macy's, the Empire State Building and the New York Library.
Although not the most luxurious of hotels, the rooms are comfortable and provide what is needed for those on a budget, or those who would prefer to spend their money in Bloomingdales! Each room comes with ensuite bathroom, TV, telephone and air conditioning.
For guests who are feeling fit after a day's shopping, the hotel also has a small but adequate fitness center. For the rest of us, there are vending machines for late-night drinks and snacks, located in the basement! ...
Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: I had to come home
open doors, and give you any adive was unbelivable!
We did all the usual tourist things such as Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, shopping in Macy's (we got lost it's that big!) and 5thAvenue, central park and we went to see Ground Zero yet in the four days we were there there was still hundreds of more things we wanted to do and go and see!
One of the best experiences though was the helicopter ride we went on over Manhatten, it's unbelivable to look down at all of the builidings you will honestly never have seen anything so tall in all of your life, on that helicopter ride I could not get my breath and was constantly clicking on my camera as I didn't want to miss a thing (to see central park up in the sky was amazing as its just a whole green rectangle in these mass of hugh skyscrapers!).
How can I forget we also had ...
