5th Avenue has gained a reputation as one of the most popular student clubs in Manchester, and with good reason, the drinks are cheap, the tunes are good (and very loud) and the dresscode is relaxed. Result - the club gets packed and the atmosphere is great.
The club is quite large, it is basement level, with an upstairs bar, and balcony for viewing the dancefloor antics. The dancefloor itself is a little on the small side, but as there are very few seats, people will dance pretty much anywhere. There is one large bar, stretching the entire length of one wall, and 2 smaller bars, all well staffed, so there are no long Q's for drinks.
There is not a great variety of drinks on offer, bottled heineken or carling is £1 a go which is the best bargain but spirits and the few alcopops on offer are cheap brands and usually not that great tasting. (Although the Vodka and Redbull drink comes highly recomended, and is only £1)
5th avenue is an excellent alternative to 'townie' clubs such as infinity and picadilly 21's. The music is more indie, cheesy 80's and 60's/70's music like the Beatles, Blondie etc, and a few dance tunes. One word of warning though, 5th ave regulars have a joke that the DJ, Ade, has only one tape as the songs he plays are usually the same on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. His usual mix is something like 2 stone roses songs, 2 charlatans, 2 oasis, a beatles medley and always 'Killing in the Name of' by Rage against the machine. This of course is fine if you like this stuff but stay away all steps followers, garage lovers, and opera fans!
A tip for girls, lads usually outnumber the girls by around 4 to 1, so its a pulling heaven for us, but lads may find it a bit harder to cop!
The best night is thursday, when most drinks are a pound, enterance is cheap, and the place is packed.

Review of 5th Avenue
Advantages: cheap beer, awesome music, great nostalgic atmosphere Disadvantages: quite dark and dingy, but hey, that's what indie clubs are meant to be like!
