There was absolutely loads to do at Warwick Castle. You certainly need a whole day if you want to have a look at everything.
You enter and exit at the Stables where you can turn right to find the Peacock Garden and the Conservatory, or left to go "straight to the castle" (he he he).
As you approach the Gatehouse and Barbican on the right you can go straight on down some steep stairs to the Mill & Engine House, which is fully functional and has some lovely river views (see picture) or turn left to go into the Victorian Rose Garden, which was unfortunately not in flower when we had a look although there is a lovely rockery and a pond with some large Koi carp and a waterfall.
We climbed some spiral steps at the Gatehouse, which were very steep and claustrophobically enclosed, and had a look about some of the rooms. You then come out on some...

Advantages: Good value, immaculate, 4 Star Disadvantages: Language problems
...I stayed at the Melia White House hotel in June 2008, on my first trip to London. Finding our way from Heathrow T5 to the hotel, negotiating the underground, was surprisingly easy, as the hotel is situated within 5 minutes walk of Great Portland St underground station, just outside leafy Regents Park. Warren St and Regents Park underground stations are also within 10 minutes walk in either direction.
The hotel may not look a lot from the exterior, however step inside and the reception is bright, airy and spacious. The reception area is immaculate and covered in marble, and expensive looking antiques.
The hotel has 581 rooms over 8 floors (283 Classic rooms, 158 Superior rooms, 28 Triple rooms, 62 Executive Level rooms, 42 Junior Suites, 2 Master Suites, 1 Residential Suite and 5 Disabled rooms).
We were booked into a Classic...

Advantages: So much to see Disadvantages: So much to pay
...Ever since she was little, the teenage element of this household has wanted to see a real castle. With dungeons. We have plenty of castles in this neck of the woods (Cheshire/Welsh Marches) but they tend to be ruins or not remotely castle-y enough for the romantic historical notions of a 15 year old to be fulfilled i.e just a big house without dungeons. Sorry, that should have read "brutal" not "romantic". Warwick Castle fits the bill though. Very nicely, too.
From its earliest earthwork birth in 914 as a hilltop fort defending the small Anglo-Saxon settlement of Warwick from Danish invaders, it has been part of the fabric of English history. Actually, it's been involved to such an extent that there really is little point in going into too much historical detail other than that necessary to reinforce the point that this isn't just...

Currently under-going extensive refurbishment, as the hotel rebrands to a JW Marriott.

This is a tale of buyer beware as we visited Wroxall Abbey recently. It was a wedding function and the room was £145 for the night including breakfast.
We arrived and entered the estate along a tree lined avenue which led to the mansion house. The... more
I first found this book after reading up on the Richard and Judy Summer Reads 2007, and after loving some of the other books on their list, I decided I would try this one. This isn't normally the kind of book I would go for, but I really liked the blurb... more
