Advantages: Comfortable, attractive hotel with good range of facilities Disadvantages: Location not the best, can be chaotic in the dining room
Stayed here for a week at Easter 2009. Easy journey (about 25mins) by taxi from the totally new Paphos airport terminal (huge improvement on the old one). Greeted by porter who immediately took charge of our luggage. Reception very friendly and professional, we were installed in our room withinin 5 mins.
Room had the requested pool/sea view and was generally very comfortable with very large double bed. Small balcony, well shielded from neigbours on each side with full height wall. Room had obviously had a minor refurb and was very clean, with new bathroom hardware, but tiles etc still looked a little tired.
Public areas were very smart, with marble staircase down to lower sitting area overlooking the sea. Outdoor pool was cold, due to the time of year, but surprisingly large indoor pool, fully equipped gym and spa were available. Pool ...
Advantages: Charming combination of the old and the new give this resort something for everyone. Disadvantages: Heat oppressive at height of summer. Some areas rather loud and built up
had now cooled down as the previous week had been even hotter!
~*~ A BRIEF HISTORY OF PAPHOS ~*~
The history of Cyprus goes back at least 10,000 years and there are a huge number of ancient monuments and sites throughout the island. Alexander the Great and St Paul both played their parts in shaping the Cyprus of today. However, the best known figure from the past is Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, who made her home in Paphos itself, after allegedly emerging from the seas nearby. Alexander the Great and his successors, the Ptolemies, also made their home in Paphos, making it the capital of Cyprus due its very busy and thriving port area. It remained the capital for seven further centuries, even when the Romans took over. The Roman Governor of the island Sergius Paulus was converted to Christianity by St Paul ...

Advantages: It's by possibly the best overall brewery around, it's relatively cheap Disadvantages: It's a mix of better Youngs beers, and the sum of the parts don;t make the whole, it's also exclusive to Sainsbury's, which means a 14 mile drive for me!
StGeorge ? patron saint of England. Symbol of English spirit, bravery in the face of adversity, stiff upper lip. What better personification of this great land to choose for a thoroughly English ale? And so we have Young?s StGeorge?s. Never heard of it? No, well neither have I!
Having seen this ale mentioned in the hallowed lists of ciao, I felt pangs of guilt that I hadn?t even heard of this ale. Even worse was that it was brewed by the fair hands of Young?s, whose Double Chocolate Stout, London Ale, Waggle Dance and Old Nick all feature regularly in my beer cupboard restocking (yes, I do have a cupboard just for beer!) The shame of it. Would people point and whisper behind my back if they knew I hadn?t heard of this ale? Would ciao members in their hundreds turn their backs on my ops, even those loyal few who know of my addictions ...
Meze is the traditional way of eating in Cyprus - small portions of many different dishes, from cold starters such as olives and pickled capers, to cooked dishes, served hot. At the 7 St Georges we embrace this approace to eating so completely that we actually have no set menu. Each day we prepare and cook a number of dishes according to the produce that it freshest at the time, and we serve all of those, in small portions, at one sitting. In this way, many flavours, textures, aromas and combinations can be experienced during one meal. Taste sensations can be lingered over and enjoyed at leisure, punctuated by good wine and conversation. The art of eating meze can take several hours!
