AC Burgos, Burgos
Set in the heart of Burgos and next to its emblematic Gothic cathedral, this hotel is the ... more
ideal place from which to explore the sights of this historical city. Relax with friends or colleagues in the comfortable AC Lounge. There is also a smart restaur...
Advantages: Situated in the heart of Burgos, superbly renovated, great value for money Disadvantages: None that I could find!
...When we visited northern Spain a couple of years ago, Burgos was right at the top of the list of places to visit. This beautifully preserved medieval town is a fascinating destination, and not just for the many pilgrims who visit the imposing cathedral on their way to Santiago de Compostela along the Way of St. James (wandering around the old town, you will notice many of the scallop symbols set into the pavement or into the walls of houses to guide the faithful along the right path).
Our stay at the Abba Burgos hotel was without doubt a highlight of the three days we spent in Burgos - it's not often that I would say that about a hotel but this one really was excellent. I had booked on the internet without knowing anything much about the hotel - in fact, Abba Hoteles run a number of establishments across Spain and have also opened one...

Advantages: free mini bar, great facilities Disadvantages: not central

The reception staff were helpful and spoke good English. (We had already experienced this, trying to get directions to navigate the Seville ring road and locate the hotel!)
Our double room had air-conditioning, a spacious bed, and a view over an inner white-washed courtyard and Gaudiesque tower. It had a very clean, modern bathroom with all my favourite AC...

Advantages: Position, Facilities, Service (mostly) Disadvantages: Could be too far from City Centre for some
...~~Reasons for choosing this hotel~~
I'd stayed in the Diagonal Mar area last year at a hotel opposite this one which had, in fact, been my first choice and I'd happily booked it, albeit for the wrong weekend!! I realised my mistake but my original choice wasn't available on the correct dates. Having looked at many alternatives including central Barcelona, I kept coming back to the fact that I really liked the area and had heard positive views of the AC Barcelona so decided to book here.
~~Booking~~
I booked through Hotelopia as they were offering the best deal which worked out at £317 for a 3 night weekend stay in September. I don't think this is too bad for a 4 star hotel although, as seems to be typical for Spanish city hotels, this doesn't include breakfast. There was an option available to include breakfast but...
