...Fair warning. I am about to rubbish my national airline. Avert your eyes if you are of a fragile disposition. Tales of flying on AC are not for the faint of heart! I will start with the one positive thing about the airline, and it's positive enough enough to earn them one star, and to over-ride my general "wouldn't recommend" opinion as long as you are willing to suffer all the other disadvantages. Air Canada offers a daytime flight from Toronto to London, leaving at 9.am. and landing at 9p.m. It's great because you don't lose a night's sleep, and can go straight to bed when you arrive, and be ready for anything the next day. I only ever fly Air Canada to take advantage of this. I really don't know where to start with the downside. Remember, this is coming from a Canadian, so take any comments I make in that context. ...by the War Office as a mess for officers of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. Edward and Ada Topping were running a market gardening business near Preston and Ada was looking for a large house to run as a bed and breakfast whilst Edward could continue market gardening from the grounds. Barton Grange appeared to be tailor-made and they bought it at auction for £6,450! and had 6 bedrooms available for use. Trade increased steadily and more bedrooms were added in the 1950s and '60s and the ballroom in 1960 before significant expansion in the 1970s and again in the 1990s. Plans from 1901 were discovered for a Walled Garden to the south of the house. This garden was re-created and a roof put on it, making it The Walled Garden Bistro. Advantages: The people and the culture
Disadvantages: The malarial tablets

.... Reminders of an unpleasant past (the slave trade in particular) scatter the coast in the form of castles and colonial towns. The towns are still very much alive and have not changed much since 1900 or earlier. Visit the Akasombo Dam which powers most of the countrys electricity. Trips up and down th Volta are cheap and fun. Ada is one of many beauty spots where the Volta meets the sea. Watch in awe as fish are speared by the skilled group work of some of the locals. There is no time difference and the main language is English. It's a good idea to brush up on your Twe (local language) in Accra. People will be very happy even if you can just say 'squirrel' (opuro). I recommend Malarone malarial tablets. They maybe a little more expensive than others, but the only side effect I've experienced are very realistic nightmares for a night... Read review
