Advantages: not too big, exotic, nice people, seaside town(cruises to Sweden), great airport... Disadvantages: a bit Expensive I guess
...I have visited this beautiful town enourmous times during my life. I live in a small town in Joensuu and comparing to that Helsinki seems very big and interesting! And of course many of my friends live there and my cousins, so I have spent there many memorable moments. Last year I had to take some exams there in Helsinki and of course I travelled through Helsinki many times(most flies leave from Helsinki if you're travelling somewhere outside Finland), I guess I spent many days in Helsinki. Just walking there, doing a little shopping and just relaxing. I always feel that I have born in a wrong place, because of Joensuu, it's just so unbeliavable small town and I love big cities. So if I wasn't moving to London I would probably choose Helsinki as my hometown! It's not too big, it's not that crowded like most cities in Europe are and it...

...For some time now I have wanted to take my children to visit Santa in Lapland. I finally decided to book after I read an excellent review on this site. I choose to go to the small Finnish village of Akaslompolo as it seemed the quietest resort in northern Lapland, yet still promised plenty to keep us all happy. The resort is known as Yllas, taking its name from the nearby skiing fell. We travelled with the ski tour operator Inghams and stayed in the Akas hotel or Akas hotelli to give it its Finnish name. I hope my review of the hotel will be helpful to anyone thinking of booking the hotel, either independently of via a tour operator.
How to get there.

The Akas hotel is very well situated right in the middle of the village of Akaslompolo and only 2 km from the ski slopes. As we booked the hotel as part of a package...

Advantages: friendly feeling, very relaxed Disadvantages: increasing property prices
...Helsinki is a small-big city. Indeed it is the capital of Finland, the population is very small (about 1 million). This makes the city a good place to relax. The city has a lot to offer for tourists. For example endless art galleries (see the Kiasma! Truly modern art, and a building to go with the same theme!), the Helsinki week during every summer (everything to do with art, and good chance to party, its like a carnical!) and some nice bars and clubs to visit. Some special places you must visit:
* Suomenlinna – an island outside Helsinki (a ferry goes from the central of Helsinki), good family fun in the summer, loads of young people enjoy the sun and sea…
* Kaivopuisto – a park in the heart of the town, don’t miss the huge concerts in the summer! Nice boats in the seaside, benji jumping etc.
* Shopping – many good quality shopping...
