Advantages: Perfect with dvd's Disadvantages: major problem after using lightscribe
...Have never had any problems with asus products until now. Everything was working fine until I used the lightscribe function for the first time, now it absolutely refuses to recognise any cd, dvd's work perfectly, both reading and writing, but when a cd is loaded all the drive does is make a hell of a racket. The drive is exactly one week old so my course of action was to go to the Asus web site to see if it was possibly something simple like a software glitch. What I found on the forum was a lot more people with the same problem, who have all followed the recommended solutions (even down to flashing the drive and using different software) but still can't get their drives to work. Advantages: Handles 90% of all Mutlimedia requirements Disadvantages: Fragile, No real drivers support from Asus.
...I purchased my Asus A2500D new in November 2004.
Since then I've had to have the hard drive replaced and the battery replaced. One of the hinges on the screen siezed and almost wrecked the screen. When I got the Asus, there was one pixel not working in the middle of the screen (not covered under warranty if only one pixel not working, was very dissapointed by this) There are no driver updates for the ATI mobility Radion 9660 Pro so I am forced to use aftermarket (Omega drivers) instead. There are no driver support/updates from Asus (yet they give you the Asus live update software) it's never fetched an update yet.
It's quite fragile because of the somewhat cheap plastic coverings.
The battery and hard drive were replaced promptly under the 24 month warranty. (a courier came directly to my door) so that was good I suppose.
If you can get...
