Manufacturer's product description
The P4PE socket 478 motherboard is the world's first solution able to support the next-generation P4 processor up to 3GHz and beyond and Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. Leveraging the Intel 845PE chipset to support DDR333 memory, P4 CPUs on 533MHz FSB and advanced technology such as Serial ATA and Gbit Ethernet, the P4PE delivers a full-value, high-performance solution for today's most demanding tasks. Serial ATA is the next generation ATA specification that provides scalable performance for today and tomorrow. With up to 150MB/s data transfer rate, Serial ATA is faster than current Parallel ATA, while providing 100% software compatibility. The P4PE with BroadCom Gigabit LAN, delivers transfer speeds up to ten times faster than conventional 10/100 Ethernet connections. Gigabit LAN is the networking standards for the future and is ideal for handling large amounts of data such as video, audio, and voice. The SoundMAX Digital Audio System is the industry's highest performance and most reliable audio solution for business professionals, audiophiles, musicians, and gamers. SoundMAX Digital Audio System can output 5.1 channel surround sound and features state-of-the-art DLS2 MIDI synthesizer with Yamaha DLSbyXG sound set, 5.1 Virtual Theater and supports all major game audio technologies including Microsoft DirectX 8.0, Microsoft DirectSound 3D , A3D, MacroFX, ZoomFX, MultiDrive 5.1, A3D and EAX. CrashFree BIOS allows users to restore BIOS data from a floppy diskette even when BIOS code and data are corrupted during upgrade or invaded by virus. Unlike other competing vendors's products, ASUS motherboards now enable users to enjoy this protection feature without the need to pay an optional ROM. When the system hangs due to overclocking failure, there is no need to open the case to clear CMOS data. Simply restart the system and the BIOS will automatically restore the CPU default setting for each parameter. During the computer POST (Power On Self-Test), ASUS POST Reporter provides friendly voice warnings through internal or external speaker, clearly explaining system errors for quick and easy optimization. The bundled Winbond Voice Editor software allows uses to add customized system voice warnings and multi-language support. ASUS provides friendly localized BIOS setup menu to help you configure your system as easy as possible. With ASUS EZ Flash, you can update BIOS before entering operating system. No more DOS-based flash utility and bootable diskette required. ASUS Q-Fan technology intelligently adjusts fan speeds according to system loading to ensure quiet, cool and efficient operation. An optional IEEE 1394 interface provides high-speed digital interface for audio / video appliances such as digital television, digital video camcorders, storage peripherals & other PC portable devices. ASUS has designed into this motherboard an AGP Warning LED. The AGP Warning LED automatically stops you from turning on your system with incompatible voltage AGP (3.3V) cards, and protects from permanently damaging your motherboard. ASUS P4PE offers robust overclocking options to maximize your system performance, including: flexible CPU Core Voltage Adjustments in 0.025V increments over defaults; SFS (Stepless Frequency Selection) from 100MHz up to 200MHz at 1MHz increments; adjustable FSB/DDR ratio; fixed AGP/PCI frequencies; C.P.R. (CPU Parameter Recall). All ASUS motherboards are designed and tested to meet the highest quality standards. Responsive customer support and frequent BIOS and driver updates ensure that you're getting the fastest, most reliable performance - all the time.

...The AsusP2B is a stable and feature rich motherboard. It replaced a TMC motherboardI had which had ‘issues’ with Nvidia graphics cards. Since the swap my computer has been more stable in general use, as well as when the graphics card is working hard. Asus support the board well, a recent BIOS update added APCI power saving support. You get onboard USB, two EIDE channels, floppy disk controller, two serial ports, one parallel port and two ps/2 ports and the option to connect an infra red port. Wow! There’s lots of setup options to keep the tweakers happy and even the option of an Asus network card, which adds wake on LAN capability. Asus even have free motherboard monitoring/trouble shooting software available for download! If your slot 1 computer crashes a lot, try changing motherboards – you could be pleasantly surprised....

Advantages: Very stable Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...I had recently had to make the decision on whether to upgrade my motherboard to another SDRAM board or to change to DDR. I decided that DDR was the way to go, as it is so cheap at the moment (same price as PC133). So, now I had to decide on one of two boards, the Gigabyte 7DX, which a friend of mine owns, and the Asus A7M266. Both were very similar to each other except the price, the Asus is a little dearer. However I have read reviews of both, and the Asus seemed to come with better software and was also said to have better overclocking abilities. This swung it for me. The Asus it was to be. This board has been better than expected; it is a lot more stable than my old one. It can also be overclocked a hell of a lot more....

Advantages: Reliable, features, value, support Disadvantages: none that I can find
...When looking for a motherboard for my brand new socket 939 processor I looked at the available options from my favourite supplier, ASUS.
I've used ASUS for a few computers now, from a cheapo A7V8X-X, to a top-of-the-line socket A board the A7V880 (socket A WITH dual channel) and I even have an ASUS cooler and an ASUS graphics card.
ASUS do no errors here neither, with the A8V Deluxe which has the stability ASUS are renowned for as well as every feature which is available. SATA, SATA Raid, IDE RAID, Firewire, Gigabit Ethernet, Dual Channel, AGP... what else could a computer builder want?
I bought this OEM so everything had to be downloaded from the net, which is easy and quick. The installation procedures are simple and there's no silly flash programs to 'help the baffled'. I love the ASUS probe software, which is small and very...

Hi, The model here, the ASUS M2N-E has proved itself over the last year. I built several systems using this motherboard and so far it has been well up to ASUS' usual standard and for me it is the natural successor to my previous one (A8N-E). My comments more
Being a personal computer (PC) supplier, I try to find a 'better' product with better price for my consumers. As a fact, consumers would have a good product with reasonable price.
ASUS is a well known manufacturer for mainboards. It always... more
