On the first evening we wandered up the Champs Elysees and crossed over the Charles de Gaulle Etoile and next to the Arc de Triomphe to 5 Rue De Presbourg where we found a wonderful bar/restaurant called 'Sir Winston'. It was a real find and we had a wonderful meal in there.

We arrived at Gare du Nord, Paris during the afternoon of March 26th 2006 and took the No. 4 metro line towards the Vavin stop. This hotel is part of the Best Western Group and is about a five minute walk from the metro and is situated in a side street. We asked for a non smoking room and got a non smoking room. Our twin room was on the fifth floor, accessed by a small lift. It wasn't very big but as we were only staying for a couple of nights it didn't matter too much. There was a small table next to my bed and there wasn't much room between it and the bathroom door which opened out into the room. We had a television and a mini bar although we didn't use it because the drinks were too expensive. The bathroom was clean and modern, but the shower head took a little time to get used to. We had lovely fluffy white towels and a good selection of toiletries. Our room overlooked the back of the hotel and the rooftops of Paris. There wasn't a welcome tray in the room but we could have had a kettle and cups if we had asked for one.
For guests who like to sit, relax and read, there is an area near reception with lots of books and magazines, as well as paintings on the wall that are for sale. There is a bar just off reception. The maids and all the staff in the breakfast room were all very cheerful, helpful and charming. The reception staff were more than willing to help if you needed recommendations of where to eat.
We chose to eat breakfast at the hotel and it cost an extra 13 Euros each per day. There was ample food and a great selection. If you don't want to have breakfast at the hotel, there are plenty of places nearby. For those who don't particularly like coffee, there was also a good selection of teas available.
For the energetic visitors, it is about a forty minute walk up to the River Seine and Notre Dame but the two nearby metro stations make it easy to get around
We had a look at the visitors book as we were going into breakfast one morning and there are a lot of positive entries from people who have stayed there. I would certainly recommend a stay at this small cosy hotel.
Checking out was easy and they also allowed us to store our luggage in a room free of charge until we needed it later that afternoon.
The cost of our double room was 149 Euros per night.
