F.E.A.R for the PC - Single Player Review
The Game:
Paxton Fettel (where did they dream that name up?) is a military commander, who has gone off the rails a bit. He has taken command of a battalion of cloned super soldiers who are all telepathically linked to him. Fettel and these super soldiers seem to be on a mission, a mission that you (as the newest member of the First Encounter Assault Recon team - F.E.A.R.) must discover and thwart. Kill Fettel and you kill the link.
The Review
Of all the different genres of games that are available, the first person shooter (or FPS) is my favourite. From "Farcry" to "Half Life" and from "Doom" to "F.E.A.R", the FPS has a way of pulling me in and holding my attention from beginning to end.

Advantages: Convenient for Pompeii Disadvantages: AC? What AC? Room was like an oven.
We were planning to visit Pompeii but finding a decent hotel close by was as easy as excavating these ancient ruins with a teaspoon. So Naples it was.
The Holiday Inn looked perfect for our needs - on the edge of the city towards Pompei and easy access from the autostrade. When I say easy access, I mean 'in theory'...on a map...in my wildest dreams etc. The Holiday Inn is situated in a modern development of high-rise offices and commercial properties called Centro Direzionale directly connected to a link road from the A1 autostrade. But, this being Naples, where stock car racing is not only the principal hobby, it's downright de rigeur, it proved a little more tricky than directed from the hotel's web page. Advantages: Entertaining 1st person shooter for PC Disadvantages: Violent and irreverent language
F.E.A.R. is a 1st person shooter PC game filled with violence and horror. This one is really spooky.
What's a 1st Person Shooter?

Since old DOS games like the now ancient Castle Wolfenstein and Doom, 1st person shooters have involved the player seeing what you would actually see when entering a room. Typically a gun sits at the bottom of the screen and you can change to another type, reload, and see it firing. They've evolved into things of beauty over many years and the controls and graphics have changed so much that playing one now is an addictive and immersive experience.
1st person shooters include later versions of those early Doom and Quake games as well as many new variations. The best are now more like interactive films than their pixelated gaming ancestors.

Don't pay attention to the haphazard decor; the pizza is excellent, from the ubiquitous basics to such original specialties as the brashly named incazzata, a calzone stuffed with spicy pasta all'arrabbiata (for those who can't decide if they want pizza or pasta). If you do want pasta, try the hearty gnocchi with beans, or the superb house spaghetti with fresh tomato and a perfectly cooked medley of fresh seafood.
