...Caen is capital of Lower Normandy (Basse-Normandie in french). Located in north-west of France in the département of Calvados. This small city is full of tranquility, mostly people are nice, this region is aslo famous for its dairy products such as tasty cheese & camembert and turing the disadvantage into advantage and learn french. You may make this as your main point and visit all of the normandy attractions from this place.
This city of William the conqueror's tourist attractions include "The castle (Château de Caen), Abbaye aux Hommes (Men's Abbey), Abbaye aux Dames (Women's Abbey), Town Hall". All these attractions could be done as a guided tour, the good thing is that there is no admission fees for any of the tourist attraction (with exceptions of some days / Time).

...I have been to France many times, always visiting the Dordogne area which I love, but our friends recommended Burgundy for a change of scenery and gastronomy.
We went to the Burgundy region in October 2004 for a week, self catering in a wonderfully topsy turvy farmhouse, set in 3000sq metres of garden in a hilly village near Burgundy's wine capital Beaune, with 3 vineyards within walking distance. October was quite a nice month to visit, as the grapes had all been harvested and the autumn colours were just starting to settle in. The weather was fine, slightly breezy and thankfully only rained on our last day.
We drove using Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais, and then began the long haul down to Burgundy. It seemed like a very long drive, and we have driven to the Dordogne many times, so I knew to expect very straight boring roads...

...restaurants where you can try the local delicacy, 'mouton de pré-salé', mutton or lamb having grazed on the sometimes-flooded fields, thereby acquiring a peculiar salty taste. These are found all along the Breton coast, but the Mont Saint Michel ones are the most famous. If like us you find the prices a little prohibitive, you would be well advised to eat out with the Mont Saint Michel itself.
Now the town surrounding the abbey is well worth a look in itself, so much so that a friend of mine who had been there never got any further, not realising there was more to see nearer the summit. One thing you have to be prepared for is the amount of steps you will have to climb. In the intensifying heat of the morning, this proved quite hard work and the teenage moaning and groaning reached new heights at that point. Make sure you have plenty water...
