Advantages: Compact and Pretty town Disadvantages: Limited night life.
..., the Abbothall museum and many other little places of interest.
Kendal is worth a visit in its own right not just a base for going elsewhere. It may not be the most cosmopolitan of places but it is compact enough to be able to wander around and its setting is superb....

...Aberdeen ArtGallery is just 5 minutes walk from the main city centre, known as Union Street where all leading stores are found. The Art Gallrey is very easy to find.

On the other side of the Aberdeen ArtGallery is the Robert Gordon's College, which is a private school mostly for the rich people of Aberdeen 's children. A statue of Lord Robert Gordon the founder stands outside the gates, He was also the founder of the Gordon Highlanders regiment, which was recently disembanded.

Advantages: FREE, full of local history Disadvantages: none that i can think of
...My understanding of the history of the building is that Towneley Hall used to belong to the Towneley family of Burnley for over 500 years, ( I am afraid i don't know much about the family but the history isn't necessary for the Hall's current use ) they left the area in 1901 and it was sold onto the council who then opened it as a museum to the public in 1903.
It currently houses many paintings and items of great historical interest ie natural history, egyptology, local history, textiles, decorative art and regional furniture.
You are able to explore the period rooms, artgallery and learn more about Burnley's history whilst a Mouse Trail through the Museum keeps the children ( and adults ! ) entertained.
My favourites are a real life stuffed bear which sits in a glass display and was always a favourite in my primary schools urban...
