A very friendly, well run hotel
Review of Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel, Canterbury by bugsy001

Advantages: Friendly staff, Close to the city, very clean
Disadvantages: Heating was on full blast!

...We stayed Friday - Sunday. We had no children with us, so can't comment on whether it was family friendly, but there were children staying in the hotel. The hotel is very easy to find on the outskirts of the City. Plenty of parking, although I understand it can get busy when there are events on. We were sent to the wrong room to start with but the staff were extremely sorry and helpful. The lift wasn't working but again staff checked more than once if we needed help with luggage. The Bar is plesant and spacioust and open throughout the day for food or drinks. There is a 24 hour room service aswell. We were very impressed with the Hotel restaurant. The food was lovely and came without much delay. We ate 3 course meal in the evening (about £30) and full breakfasts (£13.50) A short walk into Canterbury where the shops are great... Read review

Canterbury - East Kent's Finest
Review of Canterbury in General by asterix4816

Advantages: Lots of history, nice restaurants
Disadvantages: Very busy in summer, quiet nightlife

...you tackle the M25. Accommodation ---------------------- Okay, I'll get most of the bad points out of the way from the offset, but keep reading, it gets better. Having lived in Canterbury I did not have to avail myself of the local hostelries. Some research concludes that this is an area Canterbury is somewhat lacking. Although Canterbury is a bit of a tourist trap, it tends to be day-trippers due to the lack of local accommodation (although from what I can tell the hotels Canterbury does have are very nice). Attractions -------------- Well number one on that list is the spectacular Canterbury Cathedral. It is quite simply stunning (and if you go on Sunday morning is free to get in, though some parts are closed off for services), the architecture is amazing and has such a rich history it can keep you occupied for a few hours... Economical pleasant accomodation in York
Review of York in General by christophermayhew

Advantages: quality food and plenty of it, sufficent parking, close to town centre, enconomical - guest house rates but hotel service
Disadvantages: few beers on tap, can be too quiet

...I stay at various Hotels and Bed and Breakfasts around the country, presently working in York I have found a very nice quiet hotel near the city center that doesn't cost a fortune. The place is called ABBOTS MEWS HOTEL and it is just to the West of York town centre about 8 mins walk. Advantages. Approximately £50.00 bed/breakfast/evening meal. A car park that is large enough. Friendly staff and an excellent evening meal menu with something for everyone. Service in the dining room is prompt and efficient, checking in/out doesn't take forever as at other hotels. It really is 8 mins from the town center but is also very quiet, no traffic noise or drunken yobs heading home from the pub. It appears to be favoured by older guests who revisit every few years and of couse people like myself seeking quality economical accomodation close... Read review
