Full review
Aberdare National Park was made in 1950 to protect the forests of the Aberdare Mountains. It is a remote park, as it's hardly ever visited by travellers or safari companies.

You must book in advance as you cannot take your own vehicles.

The Park is located in the Central Highlands, west of Mount Kenya.

You're able to see beautiful landscapes from high mountain peaks to valleys shaped like a V and bamboo forests.

Accommodation
There are 2 main types of accommodation.

*Treetops*
Treetops, tree house lodge, are one of Kenya's most famous hotels. This was where Princess Elizabeth was told that she had become Queen. So, as you can probably imagine, the prices at the hotel are quite expensive.

*The Arks*
The second hotel is The Arks, which is more reasonably priced. These are built in the shape of Noah's Ark. Also, the views of the animals are better here, as its closer the waterhole where a lot of animals come at night. When an animal is near the waterhole, there is a bell that is sounded so that you don't miss the chance to see it. I must admit, after the first 2 nights, this got quite irritating. It can be a little tiring, wondering around the park and it doesn't help that the weather is very hot.

You can see all kinds of wild animals here. It is safe. There are always trained workers around, and it is best that you are with them.

I saw elephants, lions, rhinos but I was more amazed at seeing a black leopard. They really are beautiful. There is no hint of colour on them, just black. There coats are very shiny and you can see their greenish eyes looking back at you. All the animals are well looked after, so you see them in great shape, as they should be. For example, the lions have their full mane which when you go to zoos or other safari tours, you don't see. All you would see is captive lions who are scared and withered. Not at Aberdare National Park. You see them at their full spectacular.

The rarer of the animals like the Golden Cat, the bingo, and the forest antelopes can only bee seen by going high up into the moor lands.

There aren’t many attractions here. The main one is just seeing the animals. But you can also take a walk in the moor lands to either the Lesatima Peak or Kinangop Peak. Here, you'll be looking over the forest and views are quite breathtaking. The weather is misty so it's like you're high up in the clouds looking down.

There is a waterfall within the forest. You are not able to go into the river below, because it's quite rapid, but it is very pretty to watch.

Wildlife
As I said the wildlife here, is the main attraction. There are all sorts of animals to see, some of them are:
**Wild animals - baboon, bats, buffalo, African wild cat, mongoose, hyenas, elephants, rhinos, leopards, lions, monkeys,
**Birds - heron, kestrel, bee-eater, black African duck, doves, sacred ibis
**Reptiles - green mamba, chameleon, mountain viper, lizards

To enter the park..
Before you can go to the Park, you will need a Smart card. This has card has replaced the use of tickets. Everyone over the age of 18 must have this card or they won't be allowed in. All your details are put on the card, to show who you are. Payment for the park is also done when it is issued to you.

It is a wonderful park to visit, if you love to see animals at their wildest.
