The silver city with the golden sands

Advantages: Plenty to do, historic, fun, scenic, friendly, easy to get to
Disadvantages: Can be cold

...description please let me review Aberdeen for you.

HISTORY OF ABERDEEN

It is believed that hunter gatherers settled in Aberdeen around 6000BC, mysterious stone circles were erected around 2000BC & 400BC saw a substantial Celtic migration. The Romans arrived around the time of the birth of Jesus Christ & fought & won a battle in 84AD with 40.000 men against the United Army of Caledonia.
Fast forward to 1136, when ...
...of Robert the Bruce changed Aberdeen into a property owning and financially independent community. He had a high regard for the citizens of Aberdeen who had sheltered him in his days of outlawry & helped him to win the Battle of Barra against an English garrison at Aberdeen Castle. He also granted Aberdeen the nearby Forest of Stocket, the income from this land has formed the basis for the city's Common Good Fund, which is still used to this day ... more

The Granite City

Advantages: Beautiful, relaxed and plenty to do!
Disadvantages: Tempremental weather

...City but I feel that Aberdeen needs to be put on the map. Born and bred in London (and Hertfordshire), I have lived in Aberdeen for almost three years now. Known as ‘The Granite City’, mainly due to the fact that the majority of buildings are built from granite, Aberdeen is a busy City enjoying the reputation as being the ‘Oil Capital of Europe’ with an economy based around the oil and energy sector. Contrary to the popular ...

Not a sheep in sight...well not in city centre

Advantages: My bf lives there and its a nice city wiv no neds
Disadvantages: Can be expensive

...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Best club in Aberdeen is LIquid, located just off Union Street, its a large lively club with two floors, bottom floor is your dancy, cheesy pop stuff, top floor is more R n B, both of which serve the purpose and you can get a good dance in both. Not sure on the entry fee though as when I've been I used a Snapfax and got in free. You can get in free with an Aberdeen SnapFax on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday before 12am, ...
...like most other clubs in Aberdeen lol. There's also, Moshaloo (punky club), and KEF (rocky and metal stuff). I've been told there is a Wotherspoons in Aberdeen, but still I've yet to find it. There is a Frankensteins, Yates Bar, but this is located off a street on Union St, more like a back street and wouldn't be very easy to find if you were in Aberdeen for a few days. There is a Hogs Head pub which is in the Trinity Mall also just off Schoolhill, ...

The Granite City

Advantages: Good Food and lots to do
Disadvantages: Finding good food!

ABERDEEN CITY - Aberdeenshire I moved to Aberdeen 4 years ago from a small village in Shropshire where I had lived my whole life. I came to Aberdeen to attend university at Kings College and this city has really worked for me. Aberdeen is a nice (non-intimidating size) city with plenty of things to do and some little treasures if you know where too look! First things first Eating Out in Aberdeen… Restaurants in Aberdeen are plenty but the vast ...
...is about 15minuits drive from Aberdeen (and well worth the travel). You will be greeted warmly and served appreciatively. There selection of real Ales and there Real open Fires are famed in the North East and the Crynoch Restaurant (the up-market side) has been voted No.1 in the North East of Scotland. The food is local, fresh and cooked perfectly. The Crynoch Restaurant is quite expensive and you need to book but worth every penny. The 'lounge' ...

Beach Amusements Huh

Advantages: If you have to wait, plenty of Bars close by
Disadvantages: too many too list, antiquated, run-down , poorly maintained

Aberdeen are in the grip of a Tourist Crisis at the moment, and we should be doing everything we can to attract visitors to our city. We should make the most of our attractions in the City. Venture down to the Queen's Links Leisure Park, and you are met with various new modern bars, Scotlands biggest night-club a Bingo hall, and a brand new multiplex cinema, all built within the last 4 years. Great I hear you say, what's the problem?, What's wrong ...

With the massive investment in this area, this Bowling Alley should be made to "shape up or ship out", even to teh extent of the Council compulsory purchasing it and bringing it under control like most of the amenities around the beach area. ...

Gateway to Prehistory

Advantages: Accessible pre-history
Disadvantages: Debatable origins

Aberdeenshire has a unique place in pre-history. Only here will you find the recumbent stone circle. Sadly, many have been destroyed as man developed his agricultural traits. But a good number remain, and are well worth a visit. Dating back to 3000 years BC or beyond, these circles seem to be a fusion of ideas from eastern Ireland, where passage graves had a recumbent stone marking the entrance, and the area around Inverness, where circles of similar ...
...in the north east of Scotland is this particular type of construction found, with the recumbent stone in the south west, and a "flanker", or large vertical stone, on either side. The remaining stones in the ring then decrease in size, reaching the smallest on the north east side. These circles are generally found on hilltops, and often within sight of one another. One can only speculate as to their purpose, although the popular idea of the recumbent ...

The Gateway To The Isles

Advantages: Plenty of destinations
Disadvantages: 7 miles from Aberdeen

Before I start, here?s a quick summary of what the opinion covers, to save you time if you?re looking for something specific. A bit about the airport website. Information on the location of the airport and how to get from/to it. A tour of the airport and heliport, and a look at their good and bad points. Contact details for the airport, the airlines and the car rental firms. Contact details and information on the Hotels. Just as a bit of background, I use Aberdeen Airport regularly, this year has been quieter than normal, but I?ve passed through the airport 6 times and the heliport twice. Some of this information has been taken from the website www.baa.co.uk which is a lovely looking, fast loading, well designed site, that is pretty much bereft of any useful facts. For instance, go to the Hotel page and you get a link to Expedia ...

Oil Capital of Europe

Advantages: Small
Disadvantages: Size of planes limit where you can go to

Aberdeen Airport like may other in the United Kingdom was a RAF base during World War II under the name of RAF Dyce where fighter squadrons were based. Today the airport has two Heliports serving the offshore oil industry in the North Sea which is the busiest in the world in terms of passenger numbers. Due to the length of the runways most of aircraft using Aberdeen still have props as jets need bigger runways. Saying that KLM, AirUK, BA and SAS are among the airlines using the airport. Also the airport close at 10:30PM every night which means late flight are diverted to Edinburgh then bused to Aberdeen 125 Miles to the North thats about 3 hours on the roads up here, ten flights are allowed to land after 10:30PM each year under the planning rules set by Aberdeen City Council that number has been usually used up by Easter ...

Aberdeen Customs

Advantages: Small, easy to get around
Disadvantages: Not much to keep you occupied while waiting around!

You can't possibly get lost in Aberdeen Airport. But just in case you lose your bearing walking down your own street, I'm going to give you some directions. These are purely for the passenger airport terminal and do not cover the heliport (which I believe is equally easy!) You walk through the main entrance (OK, the only entrance) to the passenger terminal and are confronted by Check-in desks (probably about 15 of them) and sales desks (only a few) on your right hand side. On the left hand side you'll find the baggage carousel for arrivals (yes, it is in the main hall...more on that later!) and money exchange. Head down the middle towards the departure gates and there is a WH Smiths on one side, and about 4 souveneir type shops on your right. Carry on down past WH Smiths and you'll find a coffee shop and bar. Dead ahead of you is ...
