De Vere Milton Hill House -Do Not Believe What You May Read!

Advantages: Well situated, Affordable, Good Facilities, Nicely Decorated
Disadvantages: We did not eat in the hotel so I cannot comment on that

rooms starting from £19 a night including weekends. A quick search showed me that they were offering rooms at Milton Hill House in Abingdon for £29 each on Sunday 15th February. It just so happened that the week after Valentines was half term week at the local schools which meant I could take some of the holidays I had remaining (as I work in a school) so my husband and I both booked the Monday off work. I didn?t tell him where we were going or what we were doing I just told him that I was booking a Valentines surprise for us. Now I just needed to keep my mouth shut and not give the game away, which for a big mouth like me was a challenge in itself! Milton Hill house with its whitewashed Georgian charm is set in 22 acres of secluded parkland. Owned by the De Vere Group is has 113 stylish bedrooms plus 16 fully equipped meeting rooms ...

Torquay

Advantages: Beaches, attractions
Disadvantages: English weather

parents decided to take a holiday together, like they did every year. They found themselves in Torquay this particular year, they loved it so much that later in the year we came down as a family. There were talks of moving but at 12 years old it doesn't sink in. We got home, my parents put the house on the market and we had moved to nearby Newton Abbot within 4 months. I have been a regular visitor to Torquay ever since, from visiting the sites as a teen, to enjoying the night life and spending lots of money there on my shopping trips. I even got married in a Torquay hotel. Its a lovely place to visit and live. Just avoid the local football team (Torquay United they're rubbish) and you'll have a pleasant stay. ...

Abingdon Boat Centre - Yo Ho Ho etc

Advantages: Brilliant for messing around on the water
Disadvantages: Rather reliant on the weather

I really do like the town of Abingdon, and every time I visit I seem to like it just a little bit more, it seems to have a really good mix of olde worlde charm, modern facilities and a nice friendly ambience. It's not as pretentious as its bigger neighbour, Oxford and hasn't let it standard's slip and become a Chav's paradise like Didcot to the south. Probably the best thing that Abingdon has going for it though is the River Thames which runs right through the centre; past Victoria Park, along by the church and onwards to where the supposed new reservoir is planned to be built. It was on a regular shopping trip to Abingdon that we spotted the Abingdon Boat Centre and noticed that they hired pleasure boats for that little bit of "messing about on the water". I popped into the centre and took a leaflet giving details of their prices ...
