Going up to the Hilt In Ya
Review of Hilton International, Abu Dhabi by
Vodkaboy
Advantages: Beach Club, Restaurants, Service, Choice
Disadvantages: None really.
...or both. Either way, the Hilton is well located for both. OK the hotel is not actually on the beach - but it is just across the road and there is a handy subway that goes almost from the front door of the hotel to the Hiltonia beach club. But more on that later.
Arrival I had booked an airport pickup and sure enough, I was picked up. As we emerged from customs, there was our name on the board. I identified myself and moments later we were escorted ... ...there are also the Bayouneh Hilton and the Hilton Corniche Residence. Make sure you get to the right one - you'd be really hacked off if you unloaded two suitcases, a couple of cabin bags, a pushchair, the occupant of aforementioned pushchair, paid the taxi, sent it on its way then found you were half a mile down the road from where you wanted to be. No, it didn't happen to me - well, not here anyway! But there was that occasion....
This one is ...

The loud noise in the toilet is the TV!
Review of Crowne Plaza Hotel, Abu Dhabi by
Vodkaboy
Advantages: Central Location, comfortable
Disadvantages: Cramped rooms, broken cots, noisy
The Crowne Plaza Hotel Abu Dhabi A few weeks ago I was in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates for a couple of days. Wife and baby came with me. It was only the second time that the little one had been with us in a hotel, so we wondered how he would take to it! LOCATION The hotel is very central in Abu Dhabi. Coming into the city from the airport it is about a 25 minute drive; coming in on the main road, once you're in the city centre ... ...easiest to go past the Crowne Plaza then take the first right then right again. You enter into a small hallway from where an escalator takes you up to the lobby and reception on the second floor. When we arrived a porter took our bags and loaded them onto a trolley. We went up the escalator to reception where we were greeted by a friendly receptionist. My "Six Continents" card was in one of the bags so we waited for them to appear. And waited. And ...

Almost barred from the Vodka bar!
Review of Millennium Hotel, Abu Dhabi by
Vodkaboy
Advantages: Nice rooms, some nice restaurants, friendly, good location
Disadvantages: Lobby coffee shop, small pool and gym, expensive internet
...than three years ago, the Millennium Hotel in Abu Dhabi is one of the newest hotels, in a city which is growing rapidly, boosting its tourist industry and raising its international profile. Unlike Dubai down the road, however, it is trying to keep its traditional character, and to retain a degree of class and exclusivity, and to avoid kitch and tackiness. This hotel it is part of the Millennium Group, owned by a company from Singapore. A few years ... ...since I stayed at a Millennium hotel and this was overall very good. The service was friendly and helpful, the choice of restaurants was enough for a short stay and the room was certainly comfortable. By choice I would probably go for one of the hotel that I can earn points on one of my cards but this is a worthy alternative. Eight out of ten. ...

The best of both worlds
Review of Hilton Corniche Residence, Abu Dhabi by
Vodkaboy
Advantages: Apartment independence with Hilton hotel comfort
Disadvantages: Cheap soap dispenser, some slow service
...run by the Hilton, The Hilton Corniche Residence The apartments are located quite centrally just off The Corniche, what was the coast road until they reclaimed another patch of land, building out into the bay. Thankfully the new strip of land is being used for parks abd public areas, not building. What was The Corniche will now be the Old Corniche and the new seafront road will be called... well, you guess. LOBBY AND ARRIVAL The lobby is simple and ... ...to cook for themselves, the Hilton Residence does also offer dining facilities. Hampton's Restaurant is open all meal times, with a simple but sufficient buffet. It is light and bright, with the nice, large Hilton coffee mugs for breakfast. We did start the day there a few times, the breakfast was sufficient without being lavish, with the standard breads, salads, eggs and beef bacon and sausages, plus a japanese selection of soup, dried fish and ...

Maha is so Sweet
Review of Al Maha Rotana Suites by
Vodkaboy
Advantages: Nice room, comfortable, clean, well located
Disadvantages: Not cheap, only one restaurant and NO BAR!
Rotana is a chain of hotels in the Middle East. They are quite new and the ones that I have stayed in have been generally clean, efficient. They are not excessively luxurious but certainly comfortable, well furnished and equipped. I would place them at 4 star. There are two Rotana hotels in the Abu Dhabi; one on the beach, and the other one which I was in. It's located in central Abu Dhabi in the commercial and shopping area, a short cab ride from ... ...Corniche seafront. The hotel seems to be offering studio apartment type of accommodation rather than pure hotel, which gives a bit of independece. Om the downside, there is only one simple restaurant, and no bar! ARRIVAL AND RECEPTION The building is tall, looks very new and modern. The lobby area seemed rather small but considering the building is tall and narrow perhaps that shouldn't have been a surprise. There is a small seating area in the centre; ...
