Hotel Sully St Germain

Advantages: Location, price, atmosphere
Disadvantages: None

Very comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms with exposed stone walls and tapestries. Great price out of high season and a wonderful position. There is a cafe/bar just across the street for breakfast. (I would never take breakfast in a Paris hotel, they are often over-priced and questionable quality.) Easy walking distance to the bars and restaurants of the Left Bank, also Notre Dame, the Sorbonne, Jardin du Luxembourg and the Marais. Maubert Mutualité Metro station only 50 metres away for easy access to all other Paris attractions, although the road up to the hotel is quite steep if you are carrying heavy luggage. For local interest, there is a lively street market in Place Maubert and the local shops are a delight of colours and tastes. A super location for exploring the history of Paris as well as sipping ...

Review of Sully Saint Germain, Paris

Small, but perfectly formed boutique hotel

Advantages: Good location
Disadvantages: Tiny baths!

Just back from 4 great nights in Paris at La Villa hotel. The location is fantastic - only a short walk away from loads of exciting restaurants and cafe-bars in the happening Latin Quarter. Try out Le Pres Aux Clercs next door (Hemingway's old haunt apparently, he used to live close by) - the food is fairly expensive but very good and the massive tree in the middle of the dining room is amazing! The hotel itself is on a quiet street in the heart of St Germain, plus all the rooms have shutters, which help to keep the noise to a minimum at night. The reception staff at La Villa are generally very helpful and the rooms are clean and well-decorated/furnished. Each room is equipped with a minibar, complimentary toiletries, robes and hairdryer. My only complaint is that the baths are very small (I could not lie down in ours, and I am only 5 ...

Review of La Villa Saint-Germain, Paris

A gem in the heart of Paris

Advantages: Beautiful, old, breath-taking
Disadvantages: None

If you go to Paris and only see one thing, make sure its this. You will not be disappointed. It is quite simply stunning. HISTORY: Those of you who have read some of my other reviews might have guessed that I am slightly obsessed with all things historical! So i'll try to keep this section to the point!! Sainte Chapelle was built in the 13th Century by Louis IX (later Saint Louis) to house some of the relics of the Passion of Christ, including the Crown of Thorns. Louis wanted what basically amounted to a huge reliquary to be built inside the royal palace, Palais de la Cite. This chapel was the envy of Europe and probably copied in England and the Holy Roman Empire, to house their own relics. The chapel was meant to symbolise the close relationship between the French King and God, therefore the chapel is decorated with Fleur ...
