Advantages: Closest beach to Mexico City, donde vivo ahora
Disadvantages: It rains a lot this time of year
...and head to the beach. Acapulco is the nearest beach to Mexico City, so off we went.
~~~ Getting There ~~~
Some people would fly to Acapulco. It takes 45 mins from here, and is quite a civilised way to travel. Not us. We took the Autopista del Sol (Highway to the Sun) which should take 4 - 5 hours, but of course took us longer (think 6.5 hours) because of the long-weekend traffic. Mexico doesn't really do trains, but the busses are as comfy as ... ...~~~ A Regular Day In Acapulco ~~~
The bay and the beach are two of the main reasons people head to Acapulco, though I think it's a little more the former than the latter. I have been to many beautiful Mexican beaches, and Acapulco does not make the list for me. I did not go at the best time of year, perhaps, as the water quality was not brilliant - stretching out my legs while I floated I could tell I had a feet, but not count the toes on them, ...

Loco for Acapulco

Advantages: the weather, the people, the area, virtually everything in fact
Disadvantages: the beach sellers, the cockroaches, the long flight time from the UK, and a small earthquake.
...have not been before, but Acapulco is somewhere I would return to in a heartbeat.
It has to be one of the best holidays I have had in a long time.
Why? I hear you ask.
We booked about 6 weeks before we went so not exactly last minute, but not ages in advance and paid around £750 each for all inclusive 4 star hotel for two weeks. All the hotels are arranged around the bay along a long road called La Costera, and many are actually on the beach.
... ...staff were great, you didnt even have to get out of your sunlounger to go to the bar, the waiters came down on to the beach and delivered your drinks to you dripping with ice. Well you need to keep cool in 47C heat.
Before this turns into a review on the hotel, let me mention the resort of Acapulco. There is tons to do beside sitting soaking up the sun, if you are that way inclined. We fit in a day diving, (cost about £80.00 each), a day on a boat ...
