On the website it said that it was a group of bungalows set in idillic gardens. Sounded very nice.

The hotel seemed a bit secluded but it was dark and we couldn't really see anything.

I was booking a holiday for myself and 3 three friends for the end of our A levels. I searched on every website imaginable when finally I came across a week in Kos at the Achilleas Beach Hotel. It was £250 per person All Inclusive. Of course my friends were all very excited about going to a 3* All Inclusive hotel. So I booked it.
On the website it said that it was a group of bungalows set in idillic gardens. Sounded very nice.
Upon arrival to Kos we found a taxi straight away and it took the 4 of us to our hotel. It was about a 15minute ride and cost about 16 Euros, which was a lot cheaper than the coach return we were offered by the tour operator for 15 Euros a head.
The hotel seemed a bit secluded but it was dark and we couldn't really see anything.
We entered the lobby, which was very big and nicely decorated, with sofas, tables and a fish tank or two. We were checked in at the desk and offered air conditioning. It was at a cost of 7 Euros per night per room!!! We all came to the decision that we didn't need it so we turned it down. We were shown to our rooms and a man helped us with our bags.
It seemed a great hike to the rooms. Along the way we walked past a lot of, what seemed to be, houses. We discovered that they were not bungalows but infact two storey house type accomodation. And they were all joined together like terraced houses. The "idillic gardens" were more like dirt and weeds but again, we couldn't really see as it was 1am!
We all retired to our beds and waited to see what tomorrow brought. I woke up at around 10am, feeling jetlagged, and walked out onto the terrace. WHAT A VIEW!!! We'd been told that our room would be inland facing but this definatly wasn't. It was beautiful. Our balcony seemed about 400m from the beach and you see right across the sea and another island in the distance. In the evening you could also see lights and cars on the other island. Right infront of our room was the idillic garden i believe. There were two large areas of bright green grass being watered by spinklers.
Breakfast was missed throughout the week so I can't comment on that but we definatly made the most of lunch and dinner. Both meals were in the same restaurant, sometimes with similar food. There were about 5-8 different meals each night with the same side portions of potatoes, veg, etc. It was self sevice so you could choose what you wanted. There was also a range of pastas and cold food, salad, bread and fruit. Drinks were also self service.
On the first day we went to the pool. It was quite crowded and a little difficult to find a lounger but we did. Even without an umbrella there were shaded areas for those of you like myself who burn easily. The pool was a very good size with plenty of room for everyone. There were sports done in the pool as well as the nets which stayed there all day.
Other sports included, 2 tennis courts (although you have to walk across the dirt track road to get to them and a football pitch within the hotel. There was a mini golf course too but it wasn't exactly St Andrews. It was built on a hill and the ball had a habit of rolling. For kids there was a playground. Quite simple, a slide, small climbing frame, seesaw and round about. There was a also a game room with a pool and billiard table, 2 table tennis tables and some arcade games. The equiptment was rented from reception and it cost 10 Euros but this was given back to you when the equiptment was returned.
There was a shops across the road from the hotel which sold food, drinks and souvineers as well as a rental shop for quad bikes. These were priced quite well at around 30 Euros for a week. Quite hand too if you want to go to the local town.
It is walkable to the local town. There is a path from the hotel beach to the town and at night is lit. It took us about 10 minutes each way but it was midday (not the best time to go) and Im not a good walker!
The hotel room was standard. Two single beds, a chair, dressing table and built in wardrobes. There was also a safe in the wardrobe which you have to rent for £21 Euros a week but it is worth it. There is also a television, you have to pay to get the control but to be honest, we never would have had time to watch it anyway. The bathroom was ok, with a bath/shower, toilet and sink. There was no fan and we did not buy air conditioning once while we were there and it was June. It was extremely hot too. One day we had a temperature of 40 C. The balcony was and ok size (it had a table and two chairs) but the best part was definatly the view.
The hotel will eventually invite you to a welcome meeting. It is worth going to as they offer all the trips to parts of the island. The do a coach trip to Kos town for a night. It cost 5 Euros each and it takes you there and back. Excellent night life there. A trip across to Turkey is also available, which we thought was fantastic. In fact I'd love my next holiday to be there. It cost 40 Euros each but for that you get picked up at your hotel at a shocking 7am, taken to the port where you get a boat to Turkey. There you spend the day doing whatever you wish (there is a free bus ride to the top of a hill which gives you fantastic views of the whole harbour and also takes you to a jewellery factory). The boat leaves at 4 O'Clock.
Because the hotel is All Inclusive you would expect a lunch to be packed for this trip which they dont do and is a little disappointing, although it does give you a reason to go to McDonalds.
I would definatly recommend Kos to anyone. It was a lovely place. The hotel was fine but was a little secluded and unless you could rent a car (which we couldn't) you can't reall go anywhere. The food was a little disappointing but you could could also get drinks and snacks from the pool bar all day. There was entertainment at night but we didn't go. Overall it was a great holiday, but a great holiday is who you go with, not where you go. The poor points i've mentioned definatly didn't bring us down.
