...if you're thinking of staying in piraeus, then we would thoroughly recommend the acropole. we were made to feel very welcome and felt at home straight away. the staff offered us useful information and we were delighted with every aspect of our stay! it is just a 3-minute walk from the bus station which has a direct bus to the airport. also, it is a 2-minute walk from the subway which we used to get around athens (very cheap and easy to use). finally, it is 100-metres from the port itself, making it perfect if you, like us, want to visit the beautiful surrounding islands. so if you want somewhere very friendly, clean and incredibly well-priced, then we can honestly recommend it. we cant wait to return. good luck!... ...A few years ago I was studying the classics with the Open University, so we decided on a holiday in Greece. We chose a touring holiday of the mainland taking in many of the historical sites featuring in my studies combined with a week on the island of Corfu. The hotels for the tour were all pre-booked en-route. In most of the cities, the hotels we stayed in were pretty basic and much of a much ness. The rooms were all quite unremarkable, a bed with en-suite shower, sink and toilet and the food was particularly bland and predictable. I think we had chicken every night. This said you can imagine that it was such a treat when we came to Athens and found that we were to stay at the Acropol, a four star hotel and by contrast wonderfully luxurious.
