We booked through Expedia for a fairly last minute 3 day break with the family (2 kids). Reviews on Expedia were mixed but were quite critical of the attitude of hotel staff. We booked anyway because staff attitude wasn't a major issue for us and there was little available mid easter hols that was city central and where we could all be in the same room (or appartment as this turned out to be). We knew that it was close to the eiffel tower and hoped we would have a room with a view. Last minute booking precluded us from stipulating this.
We walked from St Lazare Train station station with rucksacks for what seemed to be miles. Our 2 boys struggled a bit towards the end but we reckoned it was a good experience for them. Better than jumping on the metro and just "arriving" 10 minutes later. Character building stuff!! On the way we saw a lot of Paris life as well as an attempt to con us with a "look I've found this gold ring" trick. We were heading for the most recognisable land mark of all. The Eiffel tower. Took us about an hour to reach the hotel and we were all shatterred. Heavy rucksacks.
Our expectations were not high which may have helped. We were greeted by a very friendly young french (obviously) receptionist and we asked if we could have a room with a view of the tower. She spent quite a while fumbling about and then smiled and said "you'll have to wait and see"! It was well worth the wait. The elevator was fast but took ages. We emerged after many "bonjours and au revoirs" (french people always say hello and goodbye as they enter or leave an elevator) on the second top floor which was very high up. Very scary actually. We opened our appartment door and there right in front was the Eiffel Tower. Kids were over the moon. We could see for miles and miles. The views were breathtaking. The apartment was clean and airconditioned. The lounge had a double pull down bed and the bedroom had 2 singles. All very comfortable. All equipment provided for self catering ie cooker, microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle etc and a good supply of clean cutlery and crockery. The dining table was positioned by the window with the amazing view so meals were a joy and an adventure. The kids spent most of their time playing in the elevator so free entertainment was inadvertantly provided. They became experts at saying bonjour and au revoir.

There is no restaurant in the hotel. They do provide a buffet breakfast at a price but with a large Supermarket about 100 yards away we were happy to use that. The hotel is not located in the nicest of locations but for us it was just a base and we had not planned to eat out much anyway being a bit skint. We did break the bank one night and had pizza from a nearby restaurant. It was only later on that we found some nicer nearby places a short walk away from the Eiffel tower direction and just beyond the supermarket. There is a metro station about 400 yards away, the tower is about a 10 minute walk and the river is 2 minutes away. It's not the cosiest hotel I've stayed in. Fairly basic and sparcely decorated but clean and well appointed. The local area is not great but for us it was simply a base at a good price. Staff were consistantly pleasant and helpful. We would most certainly stay there again.

So, all in all we had no problems.

Facilities:

Lovely staff.
