Advantages: Great Atmosphere, restaurants, shopping. Disadvantages: Main attractions can be very busy at peak times.
...and amber jewellery (which Poland is famous for). This is a fantastic place to visit and a favourite of my mothers- she spent hours here! The arcades on either side of the building now house attractive, but pricey, little cafes and the the first floor is home to a gallery of 19th century polish painting and sculptures. Admission to the gallery is free and it opens Tue,Thur 11am-5.30pm and Wed to Friday 9am-3pm. At the weekends opening times are 10am-3pm.
2) AdamMickiewicz Monument
This is a meeting place for many locals and is again centrally located in the square. It is a monument to a polish romantic poet, AdamaMickiewicza and was designed by Teodor Rygier. It was erected in 1891 but I have to admit, I did not stray to close to the monument for fear of the numerous pigeons! These pigeons are considered to be noble, due to local legend...

Advantages: Local, cheap and friendly Disadvantages: None
...As far as chippies go, it's very rare anyone makes an effort. The staff are often miserable at being stuck around the fryers all day, they're hot, and dirty. Luckily, Adam's Place is none of these things. The staff are friendly and sociable, it's not too warm inside, and spotless. Located in the heart of Selly Oak on the Bristol Road, it is frequented by the locals which includes the student population of the University Of Birmingham. The usual selection of food you would expect from a chippy is available, as well as a few optional extras, like the tasty battered onion rings. Everything is cooked well, and is pretty tasty - the chips are well made, and not too tough, and the sausages are just right. There are many offers to be taken advantage of, with a variety of foodstuff involved in the low prices. And finally, there is a wonderful...

Advantages: Fantastic architecture with a diverse mix of styles, very good nightlife and arts scene, excellent place for buying anything antique. Disadvantages: None really. I wish Krakow stays just the way it is. Only the Kazimierz district requires some restoration work, but that's already underway.
...to buy anything antique: books, artwork and old handicrafts. The old town is full of antiquarians, where you can buy jewellery, gold and silver cutlery and accessories, china, and paintings. And of course the whole place is full of souvenir shops selling pictures and books of John Paul II., who once was bishop of Krakow.
Second hand books are available in plenty, both in Polish and foreign languages. If you are looking, for example, for an old edition of AdamMickiewicz' "Pan Tadeusz”, then you will have endless choices in Krakow's second hand book stores.
The old cloth market, Sukienice, has a dozen stalls with hand made wood works. The bestsellers are chess boards and sets, anywhere from 50 Zloty (8 £) to 500, which can sell for five times that price back home. In Kazimierz, the Jewish Quarter, there are a handful of shops selling Jewish...
