Advantages: More than meets the eye Disadvantages: Often overlooked
...unfortunately slipped in the past few years, but this is a small mark on an otherwise wonderful place. The portions are generous (including the cocktails -- one friend remarked that he likes the Canterbury so that he may order his usual 'bowl of martini'). The chef prepares quite a number of interesting dishes, my favourite being the lobster and veal tivoli, followed by their city-wide-famous dessert, the dessert souffle, which one orders in advance with any number of added ingredients (I often opt for raspberry, chocolate, and Grand Marnier). My friend Jim always likes the antelope (yes, antelope).
With a decent wine we usually escape at just about $100 per person.
--The Glass Chimney--
This great restaurant is off the path a bit, being in Carmel, a northern suburb of Indianapolis. It is in a nice old building, with a bar and a chimney (which isn...

Advantages: Good taxi service to it Disadvantages: Duty Free not great
...The Grantley Adams International Airport is about half an hour by taxi from Bridgetown and is in the Southeast of the Island. Taxis services are plentiful and get you there and to your destination although if you are a nervous passenger then you won't enjoy the ride. The duty free is adequate, for cigarettes and rum, but for a lot of other things like wine and champagne it is not worth bothering. There are quite a few shops and bars and newsstands. Parts of the airport are airconditioned and generally it is fairly well ventilated. One thing to beware of, is that on leaving Barbados you are liable for a $B25 (about GBP8) departure tax, on top of the airport taxes....

Advantages: not full of tourists,a real taste of a US city Disadvantages: huge ,few direct flights
...at the railway station is fantastic with over a hundred stores and I watched a free live performance of The Eagles (what was left of the originals in the early 90's).
I did'nt pre book any hotels but had no problem finding great places to rest my swede at rock bottom prices.
Holiday Inn and Day's Inn are both central and cheap. The AdamsMark hotel is wonderful for a night of pampering and the bar is superb for people watching, karoke and gloating at the dolly bird bar maids(if you are a boy!)who all look like super models.
The Famous Barr Department store is open 24 hours and is vast.
I spent 8 day's in St Louis and did'nt come across a single Brit!
Overall St Louis is a true American experience, not tacky or touristy and the locals are friendly. A place that never sleeps and will never leave you bored....

A flight from Gatwick - the only option for our recent holiday to Bermuda - meant we needed one night's accommodation near to the airport itself, to ensure we had no hold ups on the morning. As we would also need 12 nights parking I scoured the internet more
Some writers have commended the Holiday Inn for its excellent service at very reasonable prices. A look behind the scenes of the brand policy, products and pricing shows however a very different picture. Holiday Inn is in fact often more expensive than... more
