South Australian was founded in 1836. It was a highly planned community and the population was definitely not made up of convicts! The state contains large lakes, deserts and mountains. Adelaide is on the coastline, and just off the coast lies Kangaroo Island. The Southern Ocean laps the coastline of South Australia, and here begins the great bay known as the Great Australian Bight.
Now the name of the town planner who designed Adelaide escapes me, although I have seen his statue somewhere in the city. The Central Business district is a square mile area, perfectly planned. The streets which enclose this area are North Terrace, South Terrace, East Terrace, and yes, you’ve guessed it, West Terrace. The city is surrounded by gardens on all sides. To the North of the City runs the River Torrens, with a Municipal Golf Course...

Advantages: very good location Disadvantages: a little run down
...The Adelaide Hilton is located in the centre of the Adelaide CBD on Victoria Square which is ideal for exploring the city on foot.
The main night life in the city is only a few blocks away can be walked in 5-10 minutes and there are also a lot of very good restaurants near by. The main restaurant in the hotel serves very good food but if you are after 'normal', less pretentious food then this restaurant is certainly not for you. A three course meal for two not including a bottle wine will set you back over $100AUS.
The service is, as you would expect from a Hilton, very good.
The lounge/bar area downstairs is a great place to relax and enjoy a drink on a Friday or Saturday night, especially if you enjoy 50's style lounge music or jazz.
The rooms are where the hotel starts to show its age however and given you are paying Hilton...

...by the shopping district and at the centralmarkets.
Coffee shops are another popular "ritual" in Adelaide lifestyle. They love their coffee and tea here! There are several fantastic chains here including Cibo, Gloria Jeans, The Perfect Cup and Billy Baxter's, and those are just the chains! There are several smaller, privately owned little shops that are fantastic to stop in for morning tea. You can see how well liked these little shops are by the number of locals that stop in for a coffee/tea and cake.
Finally, Adelaide has excellent take-away places for foods if you'd prefer to eat at home or in your hotel. There are "chook shops" where you can by BBQ chicken and chips (fries) everywhere. You can stop at take-away fish and chips shops and get any type seafood you want as well. There are several bakeries where you can get take-away breads...
