My mother booked a coach trip away for myself and I this weekend and we were pleased that Adelphi was the choice of hotel. 4* star luxery, and we had dinner and breakfast to look forward to. How wrong was I to look forward to it.

My first impressions of the hotel was good, its exterior and reception area is stunning. But that's the only plus point of the hotel.

A silly moan but the lifts are extremely slow, so there ends up being queues from the lift doors to the reception desk. Stepping out of the lift doors onto my floor I had to laugh. Not only had I travelled up 4 floors, I'd travelled back 4 decades!! The decoration was dark, dingy with horrid flowery decoration. Rubbish littered every corner and the the carpet just needed a good hoover!!

The hotel room doors strangely open outwards, and then inside there's no lock, apart from a small chain. You then find yourself in a small foyer with a dusty cupboard to your right, the bathroom is front of you and the bedroom/sitting area to your left.

My first impressions of the bedroom was the 60s decoration, the dirt and marks all along the wallpaper and pained walls, the windows so dirty you couldn't see through, and the dust covering every surface. That was just first impressions!! Trying to make a cup of tea was a struggle since the kettle lead was so short you had to boil the kettle on the floor...surely there's some sort of health and safety issue with that? Then looking at the beds...the sheets were blood stained!!

Into the bathroom I'm greeted by a soiled toilet, the stained bath and a toilet next to the window looking onto the apartments opposite.
We called housekeeping to clean the bathroom and change the sheets. She scrubbed the bath for 15 minutes but to no avail. We then complained to reception who were rude and told us they were completely fully booked. After a little investigation work we actually found they were NOT fully booked. We were then told we would not be moved and we'd have to put up with the stained bath. The manager then went onto shout at the poor housekeeper!! I don't know about anybody else but I would not bath at home in a stained bath, let alone in a hotel, lord knows how many people have bathed in!?

Dinner was poor. The soup starter was ok. But the desserts were kept on the hot tray...a big no no! The food in the trays were spilling out onto the sides and onto the floor. The fresh, hot food was being poured onto the cold food, and the chef kept wandering off leaving you with no meat!
Breakfast was just as poor. Overcooked bacon, cold toast, and fruit which looked like it had sat there for days!

It was pointless looking for a drink in the evening as there were 3 weddings, and a birthday party being held so no bar to be found.
We then had to listen to the party music until 1am, before everyone noisily left, fighting, screaming and shouting. We found out next morning nobody we were on the coach with, slept all night!

Next morning we were then had to walk through the sticky floors, and lifts, a present from the previous nights parties.

I've written this review for all of you to see, and a letter will also be going to the hotel tomorrow. I will update on any response!!!

NB. Unable to comment on prices as it was included in a total price we paid for the coach trip. It said in reception £160 a night for a twin room though.
