Advantages: Suspense built well in parts, a bit funny at times. Disadvantages: Poor script, very flat film on the whole, lacks overall energy and excitement.
From director Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton), 'The Cottage' is a comedy horror film which originally achieved a UK cinematic release in March 2008. This dark British film stars Andy Serkis, Reece Shearsmith, and Jennifer Ellison.
Brothers David and Peter come up with a master plan in order to bag a large sum of cash between them. The plan is that they'll kidnap the daughter of a big time gangster, hold her hostage, and demand £100,000 ransom. It all seems so simple, it doesn't quite go according to plan however and before long everything starts to go wrong for the two brothers. Introduction
Maybe you haven't heard of 'The Cottage', it hasn't had a major release anywhere across the world (including the U.S.), but I watched it close to the release date of the 14th of March. On leaving the cinema I couldn't decide on which way my opinions were going; did l like it, or didn't I? Hopefully this review will help me to decide. Firstly, it is a fairly low budget film; and I can only describe it a horror comedy. Filmed mainly on the Isle of Man and Yorkshire, you can imagine the kind of scenes this film has.
Plot
Two brothers think up an ingenious plan get rich quick, they kidnap a crime lord's daughter and hold her ransom in a remote cottage. From the beginning it's a disaster, the kidnap turns into a botch job as the amateurs make mistake after mistake. Upon entering ...

Watched this film the other night when there was nothing on the TV.
At first I thought this film would be a rip off of Shaun of the dead, how I wish it had been.
But this film does have some fairly well known faces,
Andy Serkis, (golum) plays the elder brother, David.
Reece Shearsmith, (league of gentlemen) plays the younger brother, Peter.
Jennifer Ellison, (Brookside) plays the foul mouthed hostage, Tracey.
The two brothers kidnap a local gangster's daughter and hold her for a £100,000 ransom. They take her to a countryside cottage where they are met by her step brother who is in on the kidnapping. Unfortunately he is followed by two Chinese assassins charged with releasing the girl and capturing the kidnappers so that the gangster can torture them.
Once at the cottage all hell on earth breaks loose ...
