The ... ...you can go within the Adirondack Park. Great tourist spots are Saranac Lake and Old Forge. Ther is also Tupper Lake, Cranberry Lake, and if you check the links below, you'll find other great places. Old Forge has a Theme Park called Enchanted Forest that at one time was simple rides. Now it's main theme is it's Water Safari! Paul Bunyon(a giant logger) is still at the entrance.

Advantages: quiet, peaceful, not "cityish" Disadvantages: almost no one in most of the towns, small populations, stores and gas stations very spread out
A place in New York where people know everyone if you are a part of the community. The weather is constantly changing and almost never consistent. But there's at least almost always something to do if you can drive during any given season, and if you do not mind a few misquitoes or black flies throughout the year. Also, if you are interested in a little history, there are a few historic spots spread out through the Adirondacks, that were fairly important to the government.
