FrankfurtamMain (660.000 inhabitants) is not known for being a definite tourist attraction like Vienna or Munich. Frankfurt is often regarded in Germany only as a business centre and transit focus. It could be more for the visitior: e.g. modern playful architecture, history, museums, art, festivals and cultural events.
The "expensive" reputation of Frankfurt one can get just on first sight. Because of the big events with thousands of people attending like "Museums-Ufer-Fest" with a 0,2 l coke costing more than 3.00 Euro. But there we won't go ...

It was a beautiful summer afternoon, and we certainly hadn't planned to spend it languishing in a hotel room, watching Sky news, but that's exactly what we ended up doing.
THE HOTEL: The Hotel National is very centrally located, almost directly opposite the Hauptbahnhof, an imposing edifice that houses Frankfurt's main train station. We found it without any difficulty whatsoever. The hotel's exterior seemed a little more dated than its publicity photos had led me to expect, but it is nevertheless unimpeachably clean and well presented ...

and it came out peeled. Hmm. If you don?t believe in ghosts then you will have a comfortable stay!
Checking In:
This was very quick and easy, there were two receptionists on duty. Myself and a colleague were rather less amused to find that our key cards didn?t work and we had to trek all the way down to reception. The main area is quite large with a marble floor, a bar on one side and the pub on the other as well as a small seating area.
The Room:
The room was quite big. Large double bed with 4 pillows (the Holiday Inn chain also offers a pillow menu with options like goose feather or anti allergen) and was a good, firm bed. A wardrobe, desk, chair and table. I am pleased to report that the television had BBC1 and 2, MTV and Sky News. The room lacked an ironing board, kettle, or trouser press.
