Southend has always been a popular place for a traditional family day out by the sea. It has award winning beaches, winning gardens, illuminations from July to November along the one mile seafront and then there is ADVENTURE ISLAND
Part of the Leisureworld Scheme.
Adventure Island Sunken Gardens Western Esplanade Southend-on-Sea SS1 1EE
01702-443400
Opening Times:- From 11am everday, closing between 6-8 pm Monday to Thursday
Closing between 9 and 11pm Friday-Sunday Admission Free
The closing times depend on the amount of people in Adventure Island.
Wristbands for Unlimited Rides are priced as follows:-
Supersaver Wristband £19 (for 1.2 metres and above) Tiny Tots Wristbands £14 (below 1.2 metres)
All wristbands are half price from 6pm every night.
If you do not want to buy a wristband, you are able to purchase single tickets for £1.20 each. Some rides need 1 ticket others need 2, so if you are going to go on several rides, the wristbands are more economical. You can also leave the park and return whenever you want that day
as long as you are still wearing the wristband.
A SPECIAL OFFER IS ON AT THE MOMENT THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER, BUY A FULL-PRICE WRISTBAND, AND FOR THE NEXT TWO VISITS YOU GET THE WRISTBANDS HALF-PRICE AND ON YOUR THIRD RETURN TRIP YOU GET THEM COMPLETELY FREE.
With 32 rides, plus sideshows, restaurants, pay-as-you-play and amusement arcades, Adventure Island has something to suit all the family.
There are three restaurants, Jungle Jive Cafe, Adventure Island Food Bar and the new Pizza Parlour. Kids meals are priced at £3.25. There are three sets of toilets in the park which are kept really clean and usually have an attendant on site.
There are plenty of sideshows which are at extra cost, typically £1-£2.
Pay-as-you play rides consist of the following:-
Formula A1 Kartin £3.50 per Car Adventure Golf £2.95 per person Dodgems £2.30 per car.
They are plenty of shops on site including Candy Cottage where you can buy home-made fudge, rocks, sweets and confectionery. Delicious and reasonably priced.
Old Time Portraits, which speaks for itself. There are Face Painting Shops, Personalied Gift Shops where you can have your name put on virtually anything, temporary tattos at the Tatoo Shop, a Pirate Gift Shop, everything associated with the high seas can be found here, and it is a cheap shop, not the normal rip-off you can get at a lot of these theme parks.
There are 19 Tiny Tot Rides in total, and if your child is under 1.2m tall, a responsible person of 14 years or over can ride along with them for FREE.
The Tiny Tot Rides consist of to name a few:-
Blackbeard at Sea - an Interactive Show (beware you get wet) Jumping Jolly Roger Ride - a ride in some Pirate Ships. Helter Skelters The Crooked House - A walk through the Crooked House The Golden Miner - A slightly fast ride through the mines Dinosaur Ride - As it suggests
The Super-Saver rides consist of again to name a few:-
Log Flume Archelon - A large turtle with very high fast swings Green Scream Roller Coaster Dragons Claw - a ride that goes up, over and around very fast Sk8borda- A giant skateboard with you sitting in it, goes extremely fast, lots of jerking and being thrown around Sky Drop - You are lifted to a very great height and then just dropped, bit like going over a hump back bridge but 100 times worse. Bamba Zamba - A Fast Spinning stand-up ride. Tidal Wave - Choose between the fast water slide Blue Water or be daring and go in the dark tunnel of Green Terror on a boat in fast flowing waters. Barnstormer- Rollercoaster Pharoahs Prey - Fast, Spinning Ride. Fireball - Don't even go there.
These are to name just a few, there is also a sort of Ghost Train ride with a difference, you get your photo taken in there and can buy it after if you want, most people don't as they're not very pretty.
For a great day out, this is the place to go, at least you know that once you have bought the wristbands the kids can spend all day there and go on as many rides as they want time and time again and no extra cost other than the wristband. There are the pay-to-play rides but they are reasonably priced and I think once the children go on all the other rides they don't even think much about these, except the dodgems, but at £2.30 for two in a car and a ride that last nearly 10 minutes, it's pretty good value.
There are plenty of attendants around the park who are there to assist you if need be, there is a large Customer Services/First Aid Office there, so any medical emergencies are covered.
The park is kept very clean and tidy at all times and is very well laid out.
I don't think you can beat this for value, cleaniliness, fun, entertainment and a brill day ouy, highly recommend it.

The rides aren't that great quality there but there's something charming about old southend! x

I've been here before, I think its quite good but the prices are so expensive now for what it is...I'd much rather go to somewhere like Alton Towers!! xx
