Tulip Garden
Located on the Atatürk blvd. in Alanya, south Turkey, Tulip Garden is a neat café restaurant serving meals from 9:00 till 2:00. Now probably you wonder what's a Tulip Garden doing in Turkey, well, that's because the owner is a Dutch Turk, very nice guy who speaks fluent Dutch and English and who's come to Alanya some 7 years ago to start up his own business.
Being smart, he focused on the Dutch tourists and their needs, which are:
1. Dutch food: frikandel, krokant (both kind of minced meat which is rather spicy, dressed and fried), basmati rice, bami, nasi (ok, all these are indian dishes the Dutch eat often, but don't ask me what those are, I had it explained a number of times but always forgot), filled toasts and of course beers.
2. TV screen: The Dutch ppl love to watch sports, particularly football, so ...
Advantages: Amazing, relazing, beautiful. Disadvantages: Some parts are very chavvy and "english"
I have been to Corfu twice, and have stayed in Kalami on the two occasions I visited with family.
My mum had always wanteds to go to Corfu after reading Gerald Durrells MY Family and Other Animals, which was set in the country of Corfu. But we had been told some bad things about the country, told that it was very "English-y" and not the nicest place to go. But when we looked into Drect Greece, we found this beautiful little town called Kalami, and when my mum found there was an apartement where Gerald Durrell had stayed when he was writing his book, she booked it straight away. And so off we went.
We flew from Manchester airport with MyTravel, the flight took around 3 hours and so we had a film on and got a meal on the flight so the time went very quickly. Upon arriving in Corfu, the heat hit us as soon as we stepped off ...

with loads of manic motorcyclists careering along the roads, and the water had manic jetskiers, so we headed off elsewhere to get away from all the mania.
Paleokastritsa (my Greek isn't brilliant, so bear with any spelling errors) was our saviour, and we'd keep going back there just to take in the magnificent scenery. From up on high, you look down over the bay and the jutting promontories into the sparkling blue sea. This is best done from the popular restaurant, whose large balconies afford a really great view. On the largest promontory, there is a wonderful monastory, and we visited it more than once. The monks are in residence, and as I recall, you are asked not to speak to them. The trotted about occasionally, and tended to garden work, and look very charming in their outfits. I don't mean any disrespect, but they reminded me of Uncle ...

The tasty and varied menu of this old favorite attracts both residents and transients to its several dining areas -- indoors, under the arcade, along the pedestrian mall of Kapodistriou, or under awnings across from the arcade. Try the selection of orektika with some of the wine or beer on tap. The staff takes special pride in their Corfiote specialties, several of which are traditional Greek foods with rather spicy sauces: filet of fish, octopus, pastitsada (baked veal), baccala (salted cod fish), and sofrito (veal). If spiciness isn't your thing, try the swordfish or prawns. Everything is done with great care, including a delicious fresh-fruit salad that you can order by itself.
