Advantages: The only airline for many domestic routes in Ireland Disadvantages: The only airline for many domestic routes in Ireland
...AerArann have a ridiculous check-in baggage allowance of only 15 Kg (33 pounds) per passenger.
They will charge you $11 (7 Euros) for every extra Kilo (2 Ibs).
This is not printed on the Ticket nor on the booking sheets when you book on line. They claim its in the fine print of the terms and conditions.
All the other major airlines have the decency to print your baggage allowance on the tickets, and allow you twice the AerArann limit.
So if your traveling from over seas and planning to use AerArann - you will find out that the weight of your average suitcase is 5 KG (10 Ibs)- I had two, so I was technically allowed 2.5 Kg (6.5 Ibs) of clothes per suitcase! Thats not a lot of warm clothes for one Irish day, let alone a two week holiday.
They effectively charged me double the Air Fare I had paid to fly from Dublin to Galway...

...AerArann
Overview
AerArann is a growing Irish regional airline with a fleet of turboprop (propeller) driven aircraft which consist of ATR 42 and ATR 72 planes. The airline flies to many smaller airports across Europe which makes it an ideal choice if you want to avoid travelling to congested airports. As a lower cost airline, you can pick up good deals at their website but you should expect to pay extra for food and drink on board, which is consistent with most other low cost airlines.
Airline History
AerArann is a privately owned company so it is not listed on the stock exchanges at the moment. It was originally set up as an airline flying small propeller aircraft to the Arann Islands off the west coast of Ireland, but entered the scheduled airline market in the mid 1990's. In many respects, AerArann set itself up at the right...

Advantages: Fantastic cheap airline Disadvantages: Unfortuanetly, they don't fly everywhere!
...I flew with AerArann a few weeks ago on a regular trip to Liverpool, and it was one of the better flights I've had myself. (I fly small prop aircraft part time).
The check in staff were top notch, and not to mention very good looking, whilst the cabin crew were thorough on the short flight over to Liverpool. The pilot had a good sense of humour, as did the cabin crew. They were all top notch in their jobs.
Now the bit most people will want to read - food and drink. It was only a short haul flight but we got a nice bun for breakfast. It was fresh, and best of all free. Coffee and Orange Juice was free, and you could buy bottled water if you wanted.
Booking for the flight was nice, cheap and simple too, using their online booking form. A well recommended airline....
