I decided to fly Aeroflot because it was much cheaper than the other airlines. London to Bangkok return for approximately £350 was a good bargain. The service, food and the plane on the London to Moscow route was as good as any other airline. The plane on the Moscow to Bangkok flight however was a Ilyushin. The thing about this type of plane is that there is only one huge passenger compartment in economy and no partition like in the Western planes, lacking cosiness and looking quite precarious too. I felt like I was going to fly on board of a Soviet hospital waiting room. There was no TV in fact and incredibly no air conditioning and after a while when the socks and the shoes of the other passengers came off the air stank all the way to Bangkok…. On top of that the cute hostess of the London-Moscow flights had been substituted by middle-aged unattractive women and tough looking guys (probably ex Red Army soldiers from the Afghanistan war) that didn't seem to like serving people. On the good side the seats were no smaller than other airlines I have flown with and I was lucky to have a seat with nobody in front of me so I could stretch the legs a bit. When it was time to eat I had a removal panel fixed on my seat and I looked like a little boy in school! The food was good, as much as airline food can be called good or food. Twelve hours on that plane seems much longer and once I landed in Bangkok and finally breathed smelly sock-free air, I didn't look forward to the next trip back but at least I knew that by travelling Aeroflot I had saved some money.
Advantages: Cheap, could get tickets Disadvantages: poor service and facilities
We have recently come back from a round trip London Heathrow - New Delhi flying Aeroflot. We flew via Moscow Sheremetyvo Airport about which I have written in another write up.
In my 20 years of ?flying history?, I have flown Aeroflot for the first time. We chose this Airline as seats were available and price was low (£365) compared to BA (£570) for the same sector. For a family of four, this meant quite a bit of saving and we were quite happy to get a good deal. The ground staffs at London Heathrow (LHR) were very sharp spoken. One lady with an oversized hand baggage was treated very roughly. I learnt after the trip though that what they said was not so bad but how they said was the real problem! We luckily got a counter staff (a man) who was quite reasonable. In LHR boarding passes were issued for London- Moscow sector only ...

re service novosibirsk-moscow-dusseldorf-manchester
-------------------------------------------------------------------i was unfortunate to travel with aeroflot on this route 15-16 sept 2004.flight SU722 departed novosibirsk, some 90 mins late due to "weather problem".
arriving at terminal 1 with approx 35 mins to change terminals for flight SU117 to dusseldorf, there appeared to be only ONE baggage handler.
at the term 2 check-in ,pandemonium broke out.for some reason passengers were told, only GERMAN nationals, would be boarding.when i protested,i was told by the duty manager, anyone with SENSE and MONEY,would NEVER fly with aeroflot.
along with numerous passengers ,i was taken to the hotel SOYUZ to be accomodated overnight, prior to taking the same flight number, the following day to dusseldorf.
i was not given the opportunity to ...

Everyone warned me about Aeroflot. I was surprised to find a large aircraft with plenty of leg room, nice vegan food and a pleasant atmosphere. It was even on time for the outward journey from London to Moscow. The return journey was late, not good after 15 hours already waiting in the worst airport around. However that time was made up. Staff at the airport were extremely rude and unhelpful, not able to comment on punctuality at all. I did get the impression that the company are trying to get rid of the communist image and compete with others but perhaps they need to be consistent. London to Moscow is their flagship run. I expect aircraft elswhere to be like MIAT, old and unreliable. ...
