I´m an native Austrian, married to a Russian man. We both decided to live in Moscow and I really like that place. Anyway I try to go home as often as possible. Going by train takes far to much time, so I go by plane as usual. As you´ll understand flying a lot can be quite expensive, so I fly with Aeroflot all the time. No, I´m not tired of living...actually I´m very satisfied with the company.
I flew the first time to Russia in 1994. It was one of my first flights. To be honest, I felt a bit nervous when I entered the plane. It looked just like that what makes us remember the Soviet times. Not too bad, but everything else than modern. Nevertheless the flight to St. Petersburg was peaceful and quiet....without any shocking comments from the cockpit like: Ladies and gentlemen, please put on your safety belts. during the flight we got some food, which was compared with other airlines rather simple, but not bad. We got bread, some salad, cheese, a cake and tea or coffee of our own choice. The landing at Pulkovo airport wasn´t really soft; actually we landed real hard and all the seats very trembling. Anyway I booked the next flight with Aeroflot as well.
On today I still fly with Aeroflot, but there had been quite a lot of changes in between, which makes flying more comfortant. For flights from Munich to Moscow Boeings are in use; at the weekend they fly with airbusses. Another things I want to mention is that I´m flying with my daughter always. I´ve never met another company which such kind stuff as Aeroflot. They did everything to make my flight comfortant. The stewardesses even prepared the baby-meals for my daughter. On a flight with Austrian Airlines I had to do it on my own, which was not as easy as it my seem. When I had to go to the toilet during the flight a stewardess even came over and offered me to look after my child while I was away. When I came back I found her playing with my child.
The meals during the flights which Aeroflot is offering now is delicious. As usual the passengers can decide between fish with vegetables or chicken with potatoes. Additionally salad with bread, and cakes are offered. And afterwards coffee or tea.
The flights themselves became very convenient as well during the years. The use more modern planes than earlier and they even show movies during the flight. By myself I´ve made my decission to fly the next time with Aeroflot again. I was very pleased with the service and can´t find anything which might have disturbed me. By the way..I get my ticket booked with Aeroflot for a flight from Munich to Moscow for about 100 pounds less than I would pay for other companies. I already flew with a couple of different companies the last years, but I couldn´t figure out a big difference concerning service and safety compared with other airlines. The friendliness of the stewardesses I was pleased even more than I was with other companies.
BUT I´ve got to mention that Aeroflot still has Ilyushins, Tupolyevs, etc... in use. Those types of planes still remember very strong to Soviet times. So if you should plan to fly with Aeroflot somewhere, try to figure out at a tourist agency which plane is used for the flight. Not to forget...I already flew 18 times with Aeroflot and we had a delay only one time. This was caused by a man who checked in and then decided to to take the flight. So they had to pick out his luggage, so that we landed about one hoer later than expected. The other flight...17 in number were all rather punctual...+/- 5 to 10 minutes.
I flew from Moscow to Rostov on Don by aeroflot in 1991. It was the most terrifying moment of my life!

Hi and welcome to Ciao. Interesting to read an opinion of recent service on Aeroflot. The company still has a fairly poor safety record and, as you say, they are still using older aircraft on some routes (particularly on domestic services or routes to former Soviet republics). There are some problems actually getting tickets here in the UK. Most agencies no longer handle Aeroflot bookings both because of the safety concerns and because there have been difficulties with their ticketing system. Domestic flights are often bookable only in the country of origin so that it is impossible to prebook connecting flights. Paul.
