We have recently come back from a round trip London Heathrow - New Delhi flying Aeroflot. We flew via Moscow Sheremetyvo Airport about which I have written in another write up. In my 20 years of ‘flying history’, I have flown Aeroflot for the first time. We chose this Airline as seats were available and price was low (£365) compared to BA (£570) for the same sector. For a family of four, this meant quite a bit of saving and we were quite happy to get a good deal. The ground staffs at London Heathrow (LHR) were very sharp spoken. One lady with an oversized hand baggage was treated very roughly. I learnt after the trip though that what they said was not so bad but how they said was the real problem! We luckily got a counter staff (a man) who was quite reasonable. In LHR boarding passes were issued for London- Moscow sector only. The Moscow -New Delhi sector was to be issued at Moscow. In other Airlines, boarding passes for the second sector is also issued at start point if served by the same Airline. We were concerned as we had one and a half-hours waiting time. We had quite an experience there!! The 3 hour 45 min flight to Moscow was in a mid sized jet. No pillows or blankets were provided for economy class passengers even on request. The cabin pressure was poorly regulated and service was mediocre. Food served was quite reasonable looking at the ticket price; drinks were good. Staff were not polite. The second sector Moscow to New Delhi we flew in one of the huge Russian planes. The ceiling was very high; dome shaped and gave a strange feeling. No luggage storage compartments in the middle. The reading lights were at back of seats and barely illuminated. No movie screen, music or any form of in flight entertainment. During take off and landing the plane shook vigorously, the ceiling had a fluttering noise and felt every bit was falling apart. The landing was good; pilot must be quite skilled. There was no water in toilets right from the start, when asked the cabin crew said ‘sorry cannot help’!
We were not looking forward to this flight. On our way, back we knew what to expect so just shut ourselves off from what was happening. We asked the staff in Moscow if we could have 2 window seats. The staff said no window seats, you are in business class. We thought this might be a miscommunication again. When we got the boarding passes, we saw yes! it was! That was the best part flying business class upgrade for free. Food was better in Business class (obviously), more leg space and wider seats but the cabin crew attitude was very poor. The lady gave chocolates to my husband and me and refused to give to children despite two requests! We got pillows and blankets as well.
You could try your luck to fly business for free, but I will not take that risk!

Advantages: Cheap if you just want to be transported and you dont need your luggage Disadvantages: not very friendly, luggage always late, badly organized, food is very poor
