4 girls hit the Big Apple in March 2008 and were looking for somewhere central, safe and good value. We booked a double room (to sleep 4) for £540 per room (£135pp) which was amazing value.
When we arrrived at the hotel, the bellboy took us up to our room on the 34th floor and we couldn't believe how big and beautiful our room was. We then looked out the window and were treated to 180 degree views of NY city which included Hudson River and the Chrysler Tower - which you would agree is synonymous with NY.
The room had 2 double beds, with the option to choose which pillow you wanted from the 'Pillow Menu', a desk for writing (in our case to store our bags of shopping on), a little kitchenette with a fridge (to store the drinks in), a cooker, sink, kettle (to make tea to cure the hangover). the bathroom was big enough to suit our needs and also included designer toiletries.
When you are in NY city, you don't want to waste time lounging in your room, but the room and hotel were so lovely, we wish we had more time to do just that. we did have a quick look at the spa and gym (although we didnt try out) and they looked like good quality.
The staff were great and helpful - making great recommendations on where to eat, shop and drink. they would also help in hailing taxi's, as well as arranging our transfer to the airport. on our last day the staff even allowed us to use their computer to print our air tickets - which saved us having to do it at JFK.
Finally, the location was ideal for us. literally a few blocks from the Empire State Building (which enabled us to walk there in the evening and thus avoid the queues) as well as a 5 min walk to Macy's. We did walk to Times Square on our final day which took about 10-15 mins.
All in all we had a fab time in NY city and loved the hotel. We often reminisce and agree that when we visit NY again, we will stay at the Affinia Dumont again!
