Advantages: Very good, for £8-35 Disadvantages: Falls down on presentation
Afternoon tea seems to be an English affair that a lot of us enjoy. Having been for tea at The Ritz any other afternoon tea would be a hard act to follow.
My daughter and I where shopping and thought we would go and try the Marks and Spencer afternoon tea. The cost of this is £8-35 for two, not bad when you pay a couple of quid for a cup of tea or coffee.
Afternoon Tea is served to you at your table on a three tier stand, ... ...bottom and top tier and the pack of sandwiches of your choice on the middle tier. It looks o.k. but the sandwiches are in the see through packaging and not arranged to look nice. I suppose that it is food hygiene that probably stops the staff taking them out of the packaging and placing them on a plate……..We also had a pot of tea, Marks and Spencer Gold Label Tea, which gave the two of us two cups, and a small jug of milk.

Afternoon Tea is served to you at your table on a three tier stand, with a Devon Scone, Clotted Cream and Jam on the bottom and top tier and the pack of sandwiches of your choice on the middle tier. The choice of sandwiches left a lot to be desired as you can only have what they have in their fridge already made up in the packaging. If you where a vegetarian and your companion not then the choice is limited. I myself am not a fish eater so the prawn etc pack is a no go for a start. You can get the obligatory egg mayo which gives you 4 of the same, or the veggie which consists of egg mayo with 3 cheese sandwiches, or the all meat. Out of 10 this would be 6 a little more if the presentation had been better.
It was very nice, the scones where delicious, and you had a good amount of cream and jam served with it, so out of 10 they would have 9.
The tea, well I have to admit I am a real tea person, with leaves and a strainer, but I do also admit to drinking Marks and Spencer Gold Label Tea, which I may add is getting harder to buy in the loose leaf variety, so out of 10 I will give the score of 10.
As I say all in all it was very nice but the presentation could have been a little better, so well done Marks and Spencer.
Advantages: Shops, food, shops, food … more shops Disadvantages: Hard on the feet … and the bank balance
than to have something to eat or drink at the same time. Many stores, including Marks & Spencer, have ‘in-house’ restaurants offering breakfast, lunch and afternoontea. These restaurants tend to be of good quality but are somewhat predictable in what they provide and, especially in the case of M&S, expensive. Some of the best, and more realistically priced, food is available in the Mediterranean Village (Y) where there are small Italian, Spanish and French Restaurants as well as a particularly nice Chinese Restaurant. The Food Court (Y) also has a wide choice including fish and chips, pizzas, salads, baked potatoes and sandwiches. Throughout all the malls there seems to be a coffee shop or juice bar every 10 yards or so - you'll never go hungry or thirsty!
My own particular favourite for a quick coffee (and scone!) break ...
