I have just returned for a week in Agadir and I am compelled to share by experience, where shall I start? I booked it last minute and new hotels where being built, I can deal with the noise. I dont moan about accomdation because if its clean and has a shower Im happy. (it was clean and had sort of a shower)
Well, in no particular order here are the good points:
The most dishonest people I have ever come across, let me give you some examples:
1) The number of beach salesmen selling tat, approaching you when you are asleep on the beach with your ipod on. The poke they give you scares the life out of you and leaves you unable to relax. This happened day after day after day. They dont leave until you say no at least five times. They also use very underhand tactics, if you accept anything from them to "look" they say you have bought it and demand money. They also use the phrase "free to try" where food is concerned and then intimidate you for money once you have eaten what they are selling.
2) NOTHING has a price. All the shopkeepers generate pricing based on your appearence (ie tourist) and often short change you.
3) The taxi drivers make prices up as they go a long, we paid prices between 5dh and 30 dh for the same 1 mile ride. You cannot argue with them either as they become very intimiatding.
The food is awful and I am still suffering from "delhi belly" now and did for the duration of the visit. Everything tastes the same. I also suspect the water sold in mineral bottles at certain supermarkets was tap water as the seals where broken. Please check them carefully.
The streets do not feel safe after dark, are not well lit and mostly partially constructed.
I was approached on 5 occasions during the week and asked if I wanted to purchase drugs.
The men are completely lechourous. My missues doesnt mind it but Id prefer the method of a discreet glance rather than the 5 minute stare as you walk past. This was EVERY man we walked past for the entire week and ALL women in the resort suffered the same. Im no prude but enough is enough, it becomes uncomfortable and threatening.
Beggars, who follow you for at least 5 minutes pestering you once you have said no.
If you tip based on service, ie small tip for average service/food etc you are not even offered a goodbye. They expect 25% regardless.
There are NO attractions bar the constant offers of camel rides, "jetski", "waci-baci" or a 4 hour taxi drive to Marakech.
This review is about the resort, as regardless of which hotel you stay in, you will hate this place.
