Estepona...Never heard of it? I wouldn't be surprised at all if that were the case. Estepona is a little known resort (and I use the term 'resort' very loosely) half way between Malaga and Gibraltar.
I had the pleasure of living in Estepona for a year, and we left only three months ago, so things are still relatively fresh in my mind! Let's start with the good points, shall we....
Estepona has good all year round weather. The summer finds temperatures in excess of 100 degrees (Fahrenheit!). The hottest months of the year are July and August, although it is still very hot between the months of May through to the end of September. The winter months are no slouch, either. Temperatures do cool, but remain usually in the 60's. The month of January was very wet while we were there, so if I suggest a time NOT to go, then I would pick Jan ...
Advantages: Lovely weather, great beaches, many restaurants Disadvantages: Not much for tourists in the town itself
It would not surprise me in the slightest if you haven't heard of this little town in the Western Costa del Sol.
I, however, have been to this place three times as my boyfriend's mum has an apartment here (they are spanish). This apartment is located in the main town, which is where all the residents live and so there are not too many tourists in this part.
As you have probably guessed Estepona is sort of split into two parts. There is the main town where the residents live and the tourists with the holiday apartments in which I have to say has the best beach in Estepona. In the main part, which is where I spent most of my time, there are many shops and restaurants. There are a few which we have been over the three times I have been, although I can't remember all the names of the restaurants off the top of my head but a few I would ...
Advantages: Idyllic typically Andalucian town by the sea what other advantages can there be. Disadvantages: None
aside, and I digress, as always, I will return to my love of Spain.
Amongst those cities that I have visited, over the years, I include those that I love best, in no particular order. Taragonna, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, San Sebastian, and Estepona. I leave the latter until last, (well I couldn't have the latter first could I) because it is this city or more properly town that I want to opine about.
The most southern part of Spain is the Costa del Sol or Andalucia to give it its proper title. The part of Andalucia called Malaga (as opposed to the city of Malaga) and therein, just to the West of Marbella is Estepona.
What I love about this town is that it is truly Spanish, untouched by the influx of tourists as is the resorts further East, Fuengirola or Benalmadena Costa. Not that I do not like those towns as they each have their ...
