Agios Gordios is a one street resort, so is not for those looking for a lively night life, but for people like us who want quiet evenings talking to your partner, or new friends, over a meal in a Taverna or late night drinks, it proved ideal.
The only exception to this may be the PINK PALACE Hotel Complex, this you pass as you come down ... ...There is no Bakery in Agios as in the Winter only about 3 Families stay, everything else closes down.
A van arrives from the nearest Bakery to supply the shops at just after 08:00, so if like me you enjoy an early morning raid on the Bakery for those delights like Choc Croissants, Cheese Pies etc you will be a little disappointed.

Agios Gordios is a one street resort, so is not for those looking for a lively night life, but for people like us who want quiet evenings talking to your partner, or new friends, over a meal in a Taverna or late night drinks, it proved ideal.
The only exception to this may be the PINK PALACE Hotel Complex, this you pass as you come down the hill into Agios. You get the impression the youngsters who go in there do not emerge again until the end of their holidays.
The one street I mentioned starts near the top of the Village at the 'BUS STOP', every notice you read or guidance you are given all seem to start at the 'BUS STOP'. Buses run from here to CORFU TOWN, about 16 kilometers on the other side of the Island. While we were there the buses went at 09:00 15:15 and 18:15, I believe there are a few more options when the Summer Timetable starts in June. A single fare is 2 Euros, payable on the Bus, correct money is appreciated.
From the Bus Stop the road winds down to the Beach, approx 200 yards, the road is lined with Small Super markets, Tavernas And a Few Tourist Shops, Leather, Gold and Beach requirements. There is no Bakery in Agios as in the Winter only about 3 Families stay, everything else closes down. A van arrives from the nearest Bakery to supply the shops at just after 08:00, so if like me you enjoy an early morning raid on the Bakery for those delights like Choc Croissants, Cheese Pies etc you will be a little disappointed.
At the Bottom of the Road you encounter a good Greek Beach, approx 800 meters long, there is a basic BOARD WALK for easier walking. The North side is quite shingle based and just as you enter the water there are many stones to get across, so rubber shoes are advised. Also there are not many Tavernas this end. The Southern End is a lot Sandier and the entrance to the water is also sandy, also shelves gently, so is safe for Children, but as always they should still be supervised, after all this is the Sea. Also the Choice of Tavernas is far better at this end. Two Sunbeds and an Umbrella were 8 Euros for the Day, I recommend the Dutch Lady, very slim very Tanned, she really is very attentive to her customers, you will also find her serving in Alevisis which I would recommend for the lunch break from the midday sun.
Also at the Southern end of the Beach is the large Agios Gordios Hotel, speaking to people who were staying there they seemed a bit disappointed, those on return visits used phrases like "The Hotel has gone a bit down hill".
Most of the accommodation, like most Greek Resorts is self catering and lies behind the Tavernas that front the beach, I did not find anyone who was disappointed with where they were staying.
We do not drive but found plenty to do, There are three little Villages within walking distance. PENTATI 2 Kilometers uphill. And SINAREADES about 3 Kilometers, but this one is on the Bus Route.
TAXI Fare to Corfu Town is 25 Euros, not too bad as long as there are 4 of you, if just a couple, find someone to share. BUS is 2 Euros Each way, First time I would always recommend you go as far as The Bus Station, as then you know where to catch the Bus back from, In Corfu Town the Bus stations are close to where you want to be anyway.
When we went the exchange rate was down to 1 Euro 24 cents to the pound, and also I feel the Ionian Islands are the more expensive destinations in Greece, you will find the Agean Islands and also the mainland may be cheaper. Also Agios Gordios is a resort place, very few local residents, so none of the Tavernas stay open in the winter.
So to give you an idea of costs. We found the average at night for Two Starters, Two Main Courses, Carafe Wine and Water about 33-35 Euros, (Last year in Finikounda on the Pelopenese same was about 27 Euros).
We found Corfu to be the Greenest Island we have visited in Greece (Always visit in May), everywhere you look everything is Green, in a space of just 10 yards on the Roadside we picked Camomile, Dill, Mint, Origano, Basil, Spanish Brooand others, the smells are pure heaven.
The site I would recommend for potential visitors to Agios is WWW.AGIOS-GORDIOS.NET
Would I visit Agios Gordios again, the answer is probably not, but do not let that put you off, it is only that we try somewhere new every year in Greece and each time we are never disappointed, Agios Gordios rates up there with the
The best part was, as it faces Due West you get the most beautiful Sunsets, just sit at the table with a drink and your lover, sheer bliss.
Advantages: Beach, weather, food, people Disadvantages: not much to do, waterhoppers
...St Georges - Agios Gordios
St Georges was a nice town although very quite. The resort was good for older couples and those with families however not for anyone after a lively time. It has about 20 bars/restaurants and about 10 shops. A main course meal would cost about 20-25 euros for 2 people. They do tend to give you bread whilst you are waiting, this is not free and is placed on your bill so if you don't want it let them know and check your bill ... ...in the centre where you can get a 1 euro pitta as a snack. In the afternoons one of the bars played very recent films which was a good change if you were fed u of the pool/beach. There was also another bar that played Peter Kay, Lee Evans, Billy Connelly from about 7pm. There was a small bar/club that opened at about 11 but that was all the entertainment. Some of the restaurants did run a Greek night. I found the food very nice in most of the places. ...

Advantages: BEST STAFADO IN THE WHOLE OF GREECE Disadvantages: NOT EATING THERE TONIGHT
By the end of this review you the reader will probably have the idea that this was our favourite place to eat.
We started the Holiday, as you do, intending to eat in a different Taverna each night, that works OK until you fall into a place such as LITHOS.
This is a small place on the One Street of Aghios Gordios, sandwiched between two larger places, Argo and Mermaid.
It has about 10 Tables in the front, with a further 6 in the rear. A small Bar area and the Kitchens.
The Father Demitri is the skill behind the cooking with his son doing the serving, the fact that the Son is a dead ringer for a Young George Cluney has no bearing on the wife's desire to eat here often.
It has a wonderful relaxed feel, with the son never seemimg rushed, just the right number of tables for one to manage.
Starters we tried.
Yigantes ...
Advantages: Close to where I live Disadvantages: Catering and that long wet walk.
children to climb on to the belts, laughing as if it is clever.
But we seem now to be a nation where children have not been taught the NO WORD.
But then they have seen their parents Standing up as soon as the wheels hit the runway, and getting on their Mobile Phones despite all the warnings and signs.
I do sound grumpy, perhaps its time for another Holiday, Rolll on May and AgiosGordiosCorfu from , you have guessed it EAST MIDLANDS AIRPORT. ...
Advantages: amazingly cheap, good fun, sociable, great views, beach Disadvantages: only good if your up for a good party
and more and the other facilities include a volleyball pitch - where there is always a competition, a jacuzzi - although not luxurious! and internet connections. there is even massages and hairdressers available.
There are usually events going on such as toga parties... and although its all a bit tacky, its all fun. if you doing a bit of travelling on a budget, then this is a really good place to stay for a bit of rest before you carry on lugging round your back pack.
Excursions are also great - one rock jumping one as I recall- I was too scared to do that!
Seriously good fun all round and ideal for back packers or students travelling on a budget.
