AIR 2000 Limited = An Incredible Rip-Off ?
Just had the misfortune of travelling cattle class for 5 hours on the AIR 2000 flight from London/Luxor/London. The outward flight was not too bad, legroom seemed just about bearable for someone of 6’2”. Inbound though legroom seemed more restrictive and just to add insult to injury, the passenger in front was one of our ‘larger than life’ transatlantic cousins. Not only were my knees pummelled at the slightest movement, but after takeoff and once safe to do so, once the chair was put back what slight space there was disappeared completely. In a vain attempt to save further injury I stupidly positioned the left knee to the outside of the seat only to have it continuously battered by the trolley dollies without a word of apology or a simple ‘Sorry’.
During the flight there was no offer of water/juice/tea or coffee unless of course we were prepared to pay £1 for a 200ml bottle of mineral water or a 20ml can of cold drink. The only incentive for the trolley dollies was to screw as much out of the captive passengers by way of sales from the mini-bar. Apart from at meal time [stewed tea/coffee – if we were lucky and they did not run out] at no time were we offered free refreshments {our transatlantic cousin was reduced to sucking ice cubes for refreshment!}.
Meal time – after the wonders of Egyptian cuisine “bangers and mash”, what felt like a 3 day old bread roll and some pale yellow water, sorry custard and an appalling pastry [? Tests are still being conducted to establish what this was!]. Again passengers were beginning to ask for cold drinks, water, squash etc to be told that a) squash had finished and that b) water could be obtained from the mini-bar at a quid a shot. By now the trolley dollies were coming under some pressure…
The fun though had yet to start – the sale of duty free!!! With the exciting prospect of spending £35 or more and obtaining a ‘wonderful AIR 2000 knapsack’ you can imagine the intense atmosphere of anticipation. Oh what a deluded bunch we were. Cigarettes, sorry sold out. Whisky, sorry sold out. Gin, vodka etc sorry sold out. One poor passenger having parted with in excess of £35 on the way out to be told they had run out of knapsacks tried again on the return and again met with the now famous ‘sold out’. When pushing further the trolley dolly just gave him the address of customer services and advised him to write in!
People were by now tired, exhausted, thirsty, hungry and getting just that little bit towards the extreme p****d off state. Absolutely no concern from the trolley dollies apart from what could be seen as increasingly pinched faces.
Considering the air industry is in crisis, this company seems to have deliberately taken the attitude that a passenger is to be treated as worse than cattle and screwed for every penny possible without any regard to the welfare! Let’s hope that this one will not weather the storm and that the remaining airlines/charter companies start responding to customer needs and treat us like civilized persons!
Advantages: fairly cheap Disadvantages: delays and poor food
...scale when it comes to air travel, I was expecting a certain level of service. I was throughly disappointed. This is the worst airline I've ever known and its worth paying that bit extra for decent service. I've flown with this airline a couple of times and never would again. Both times the flight was delayed by a good number of hours with infrequent announcements leaving you waiting around bored. I found that there was less leg room than on my flights ... ...was in extra discomfort with Air 2000.I am a very short person (around 5ft2) and I dread to think of the pain that a taller person would have suffered. The food was nothing special but then again plane food never is, being a picky eater I never eat the plane food but it appeared to me to be no worse than usual plane food. The service on the flight itself was just fine and the stewards and stewardesses seemed friendly and helpful but this alone would ...

Advantages: Cheap, Modern, Clean, Geat Service Disadvantages: Pay for headsets and drinks
...We had flights booked with Air 2000 for both to and from Lanzarote. The image of the company is a smart, modern, and comfortable. I had a good flight with them in very nice new planes. The crew were very friendly and helpful. In-flight movies were a good choice, although you had to buy your own headphones for a few pounds (£3). Drinks were optional and they were very good value for money. Depending where you are travelling to, meals were very good ...

Advantages: Cheap but not cheerful Disadvantages: Offer you no support if things go wrong
Now the holiday season is fast approaching, no doubt many of you will be perusing the websites and holiday books for ideas on where to spend that elusive two-week break. To be honest, when booking a package holiday I never really took into consideration which airline would be responsible for taking me to my Mediterranean destination. All I looked for was the nearest airport and then the price.
***** WHO ARE THEY AND WHAT THEY DO ********
Since we travelled with Air2000, they have since become First Choice Flights. As Air2000 they were quite surprisingly an award winning UK airline. Every year, the airline's 29 aircraft make on average 30,000 flights from fifteen airports in the UK and Ireland. Air2000 started on 11 April 1987 and is the UK's 3rd largest charter airline.
The airline flies from Manchester, London ...

Advantages: No problems with safety Disadvantages: Delays, comfort
Our flight from Stansted on Saturday morning 12 May took off after a delay on the tarmac. Apparently, the air traffic was very busy and so we ended up waiting for a slot for 30 minutes.
We were heading to Palma airport in Majorca for a First Choice holiday at the Luz Marina Hotel in C’an Pastilla for seven nights. Please also see my opinions on First Choice and on Majorca.
We had previously travelled to Majorca two years earlier and once again had chosen accommodation available through First Choice only. We then also flew with their Air2000 sister company. That was when the seats were actually padded. Now they looked like a schoolboy’s prank; toilets with material on top, not pulled quite tight enough so a small dip was visible, waiting for you to fall down into the abyss as soon as bum met cloth.
At least this year ...

Advantages: cheapish Disadvantages: name them all, not big enough space here!!!!
For the first time in 8 years i finally went abroad to Turkey. I was very excited as we had got quite a good deal through Lastminute.com.
However........ This is going to be the last time i EVER fly with Air2000 (which is a subsidery of Firstchoice) I was stuck on an isle(typo) at the front of the airplane, not bad, but nowhere to put handluggage, therefore the stewardesses(i'll go into that later!) took my bag to the middle of the plane and hid it from me!
As it was 10pm at night i would expect a little light refreshment, well, 2 hours into the flight i was chucked a plate of what only i can describe as foul (well, it was chickenish!) to be followed with cup of tea you wouldn't even make for the tax man!
OK, i know that the food was going to be bad, but i didn't think that the service could be worse, as i said i was ...
