...Air France is a major contender in the Airline market, and offer a wide range of destinations. Their planes are reasonable and what you'd expect of a major international Airline. But the staff at the check out counter weren't particularly helpful and the flight attendants were quite stuck up to say the least. Fine French cuisine? Not on these planes. The food was absolutely awful and very plasticky. We had two unpleasant experiences with Air France. Once, when we arrived in India, we found out that Air France and sent one of our suitcases to Bankok. We finally got it back about 8 weeks later, where upon the locks were smashed and half the contents missing. The second time, they overbooked the return flight by a staggering 150 places. ...After travelling on a horrendous Air France flight to Joburg (see my previous review) I was looking forward to experiencing the onboard service offered by South African Airways. Check-in was easy simply provide your credit card or Voyager Card (their frequent flyer programme) at check-in with your passports and you are checked in. (I had already pre-booked seats via www.flysaa.com) At Joburg there were no announcements for final boarding so I sat staring at the screen waiting for the boarding announcement to flash up when it did I proceeded to board the aircraft, walking across the tarmac to a covered set of steps not the most pleasurable experience when you are scared of height and stuck queueing on stair that aren't exactly solid!!! ...I was just about to finish of a long week of meetings, I had been in Luanda (Angola) and then all around South Africa (Durban, Cape town and Jo burg) and was about to return to London and was due to travel with South African Airways as I usually do when in Africa. But I arrived at the airport only to find out that the plane was over-booked. So I didn’t even argue with them I simply walked to the BA counter and booked myself a ticket to Heathrow, it was the best flight I have ever had in my life. Better the Singapore, South African Airways and even Swiss Air. Anyway you get on and you as in all first class cabins have got your little video machine and your video list but I wasn't in the mood, I just wanted a stiff drink and some nice music, which they facilitated me with.
