AIR BERLIN ~~~~~~~~ Air Berlin’s home airport is easy to guess: Berlin-Tegel! In April 1979 the first Air Berlin machine from Berlin-Tegel started to the favourite island of the German – to Palma de Majorca!
Air Berlin is a charter-airline and approaches destinations around the Mediterranean Sea, the Canaries, North Africa as well as some European big cities.
Besides there are the Majorca shuttles, which already several other German charter-airlines offer. From twelve airports in Germany there are usually several daily connections to Majorca.
The city-shuttle exists since last year. At usually quite favourable prices one can for example fly to London-Stansted, Milan Bergamo, Zurich and many other metropolises - already starting from 29€!!
FLEET ~~~~ Air Berlin owns one of the youngest fleets of Europe; the average age is below two years! Air Berlin still changes its fleet from Boeing 737-400 to Boeing 737-800 since it has a larger range, more passenger seats, it flies faster and because of the Winglets less kerosene is needed.
Security is very important for Air Berlin: as the first German charter-airline it introduced the anti-collision system TCAS.
The fleet exists of:
27 Boeing 737-800 [ 184 seats ] 5 Boeing 737-400 [ 167 seats ] 2 Boeing 737-700 [ 144 seats ], as well as two leased
The BAe machines are leased and usually start from Moenchengladbach (it is near to Duesseldorf) to the European metropolises since its runway is too short for Boeing 737.RESERVATION ~~~~~~~~~ One can book Air Berlin flights in the travel agency, by telephone (+49 1801 737800) or in the internet (www.airberlin.com).
In my opinion booking in the internet is very easy since you put in your desired travel data and automatically also earlier and later flights are shown, which are possibly cheaper! To a special favourable price one is referred by the clover sheet symbol.
A child reduction of 4o% exists for children up to 14 years, as well as a youth reduction of 2o% to 21 years - such a reduction is not offered by many airlines! Infants up to two years pay just 10% of the ticket price!
There is just one class! The economy class.
CHECK IN ~~~~~~~ Since our flight should already depart to Ibiza at 6 a.m. we used the possibility of the pre-check in. This is possible at all German airports. In Duesseldorf it was possible from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
When we arrived at half past six in the evening, we had to state that only two counters for ALL Air Berlin flights of the next day were opened! Some other airlines offer the pre-check in just for the early flights which I think is better! We had to wait more than two hours, what was very annoying! We recognized passengers who checked in but whose flight should go late in the afternoon!
I wrote an e-mail to Air Berlin and they told me that it probably was because the airport provided only two counters; however they also apologized.
THE FLIGHTS ~~~~~~~~~ Both flights were punctual; we flew with a modern Boeing 737-800. The seats, as well as seat-distance and -width were average. I think that it is quite narrow for larger people (I am 170cm).
Over small screen either maps were shown, or flight data like the height, outside temperature etc… and short films (also a short film for children).
Unfortunately there was only a cold snack. A warm meal is given on flights which take more than 3.5 hours. There was a baguette, a little fruit and a little piece of cake. Besides, there are special menus, for example glow-free menus or menus for diabetics and vegetarians. They are free you just have to order them before the flight! Twice beverages were offered (tea, coffee, juice, coke etc.) but at every time you could go to the galley and get another one.
The Entertainment was not so good - compared with LTU or CONDOR: there were just six audio channels and the short films were also very mad, I think. The headphones for the entertainment could be acquired for 2.50€ which is the normal price. The small screens which hang under the cover on the right and left side in short distances were well observable.
The flight crew was very nice at the ground, as well as in air.
RESULT ~~~~~ + new machines + high kind of safety conditions + service + cheap
- audio program - pre-check in - meals
Altogether was I content and give ****. The flight cost 170€, which compared with other airlines was very cheap! The machine was clean, the service was okay. Even if the audio program was not very good, as well as the pre-check in and the snack onboard, everything was okay!
Advantages: Cheap and efficient Disadvantages: Slightly delayed one way
Air Berlin is a new German low cost airlines that features flights from just £19 per adult one way between the UK from Manchester and London Stanstead to a variety of German cities (Including Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf) and offers a variety of other destinations if you fly via a German airport such as Spain, Italy and Switzerland.

I flew with Air Berlin between Manchester and Hamburg just before Christmas on a route that used to be operated only by Lufthansa (another German airline). The cost of my flight in total was just under £70 although if I had booked earlier then I would have no doubt got the flight cheaper!
The flight left from Terminal One at Manchester airport and check-in was very busy with two flights departing at more or less the same time but there ...

Air Berlin Low cost Flight s to Germany and Beyond
This summer was the first time I had flown and to say I was nervous about my first flight was an understatement, especially as I had heard terrible things about other low cost air lines. I had nothing to worry about. The staff were pleasant and efficient and with the added bonus of being able to check in online the night before there were no worries about where I would be sitting. The flight I took ... ...I booked the flight with Air Berlin direct on there website www.airberlin.com which has since been improved since I booked my flight. You now use a map and click on the airport you wish to depart from and all the routes avaliable from that airport show up. Then choose the dates you wish to fly and click to search the flights. The lowest fare is highlighted on the day you wish to travel but there are several flights either side of the date chosen ...

Surfing the Air Berlin website I was able to book two sector flights.
124 Euro (airport taxes and fuel surcharge included) to fly from Milano-Orio al Serio (that means Bergamo) in Italy to Düsseldorf in Germany/return; and then 58 Euro (airport taxes and fuel surcharge included) to fly from Münster-Osnabrück in Germany to Palma di Maiorca in Spain/return.

After take-off I get a small tray with two slices of salami and a small piece of cheese, a roll and a slice of cake. I get also a choice of a soft drink or coffee or tea (wine and alcohol are sold ...

...to Palma de Mallorca via Air Berlin. We were through to the departure lounge by 11.30am and waited patiently for our flight. 12.25 came and went without news other than the 'delayed' message on the TV screens, and nobody, including my partner and me, was quite sure whether to leave the departure lounge or wait for news as there were very few airport staff present to ask for information. You may ask why we didn't leave the departure lounge earlier: without any information for an hour after the due ...

Advantages: Very good prices, good service, growing destination catalogue, very good airmiles programme Disadvantages: Still not too many destinations possible, 1 bad experience (although it was on boxing day)
I started flying with Air Berlin about two years ago, until then i'd never heard of them but they offered a cheap flight to where i had to go so i thought i'd give them a go. I've heard alot of horror stories about so called budget airlins and wasn't really expecting alot but to be honest, i was very pleasantly surprised. The flight ran smoothly, the staff were friendly and the food was ok, especially as it was free. It is also worth noting that Air Berlin has become the second largest airline in Germany and continues to grow, with this growth comes more flight destinations.

Ryanair, easyJet, Kibris Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Blue Air, Snowjet, Germanwings, AirBerlin, Atlantic Airways, Aurigny, Turkish Airlines, Air Asia, Cyprus Airways, Iceland Express and Norwegian.
I must admit, that when I was there, I got the distinct impression that Ryanair was the main user, and got the impression that Ryanair had the majority of desks, and watching incoming and outgoing flights, I say numerous Ryanair planes, and only saw two easyJet planes.
Stansted, apparently is Britain?s third busiest airport, and currently has flights to over 160 destinations in over 30 countries. be navigated easily on foot. For longer distances, many use bicycles, but the tram is equally popular. Day and week tickets are available as well as single journey tickets and are good value for money. The tram links the city centre with anything further out and is always clean and punctual. You are expected to buy a ticket before boarding as opposed to on the tram and spot checks are common. The train station also offers easy connections to towns and cities further afield.
In all, Leipzig is a good city break destination primarily for groups of adults with an interest in culture and history but it doesn’t really meet the needs of families looking to get away from it all.
