At the beginning of March, my husband and I had the pleasure of flying with the Spanish Airline….Air Europa. We had flown with Span Air once before, but not with this airline.
We drove to our local airport at Exeter…approximately 20 miles from our house.
Near the check in, was the arrivals screen, and our plane was expected to land 18 minutes later than it was due. Take off time was supposed to be 12 noon, but it was almost that time before we were called to the gate. Then after waiting at the gate for about 15 minutes, we boarded the plane.
We were greeted by a male attendant, who I thought did not really look that smart. He was wearing a sort of fleece jumper over a shirt with no tie. The female attendants however did look a little smarter. Mind you, none of them looked terribly happy.
I suppose the plane had about 180 passengers, as there were about 30 rows of seats, with 3 seats each side of the isle.
Leg room was a little cramped, that being quite usual on chartered holiday flights. BUT we were lucky on the return flight, to be in the exit window seats, where we could stretch out our legs in quite a bit of comfort. We could even stand up in front of our seats for a stretch.
The interior of the plane was quite smart and new looking, and seemed to be quite clean.
On taking off, (35 minutes late) the usual safety video was shown.
When it came to the female attendant making an announcement…..well, what she said……your guess is as good as mine!!!! She spoke in English, but gabbled away so fast, it really could not be fully understood. Any way, we guessed what she said, as we know the routine, having flown for so many years now.
The flight (to Gran Canaria) took just over 3 ½ hours. Soon after we were airborne, the drinks trolley came round. I had my own bottle of water in my bag, so didn’t buy any. Charges are 50 or 60p for a mini can of soft drink or juices. Also wines and spirits are available at about £1-50 a small glass(plastic cup!!) Soon after, our meal arrived. As it was lunch time, we were given a salad mix for starters, chicken pasta and bread roll, followed by an orange flavoured sponge. We were immediately offered more rolls. Then tea or coffee followed. It would have been nice to also have juice included. I quite enjoyed the meal, as it was good for an airline meal. Only thing about eating on a plane is that you need more elbow room!!
When the meal was finished, the Duty Free trolley passed down the isle. (Being a non EU flight).
Usually during a flight, the captain makes a little “speech”, telling you what route the flight is taking, but not on this one. Being a Spanish airline, I guess he did not speak English, so did not attempt it.
The fight itself was fine, but there were quite a lot of patches of turbulence, when the seat belt signs were turned on. I was sitting in the window seat(as usual) and had an absolutely beautiful view of the Alps on the outward journey. The landing was not too bumpey, and I was quite surprised how quiet it was, as usually you get the screaming noise of the engines.
AIR EUROPA INFO. The passenger airline “Air España” was founded in 1984, and in 1985, the name Air Europa was established. It was the first private Spanish airline to operate national scheduled flights. In 1995, it began its first International flights between London and New York. It is now owned by Global Corporation.
The current fleet (according to internet info found) comprises 30 planes. These being mainly 737’s. 2 x Boeing 737/300; 5 x Boeing 737/400; 3 x Boeing 737/600; 16 x Boeing 737/800. Also. 4 x Boeing 767/300.
In 1995, 4323000 passengers had been carried, and that figure rose to 7400000 by 1999.
Flying hours also increased from 77064 in 1995 to 145672 in 1999. Presumably, now in 2004, these figures and hours will have greatly increased again, but I cannot find any more up to date info on this.
MY VERDICT. I probably wouldn’t CHOOSE to fly with Air Europa if I had the choice. BUT, the flight and comfort was reasonable good, and the plane was clean. And the return flight was bang on time. Not sure why the attendants aren’t as pleasant as English ones though. I suppose they are doing a job……who feels like smiling when they are working?
Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Limited leg room and horrible in flight meal
Air Europa
I have just returned form Alicante on a flight operated by Air Europa. Air Europa are a Spanish Airline that operate from various airports providing direct flights to various airports in Spain. My flight was between Aberdeen and Alicante, and, as I have never flown with them before, here is my review of their service.
Check in
This is a bit of a grey area for me as I am not sure whether the check in staff at Aberdeen actually worked ... ...whether this was Airtours or Air Europa as the reps from both companies blamed the other!
Flight, service and food
The flight to Alicante from Aberdeen lasts just over three hours. The plane was similar to those operated by Easyjet and was clean and tidy with a nice greeting from the Spanish in-flight staff.
The seating was all allocated but there was limited leg room. The in-flight staff were all Spanish, were polite and spoke good English. However, ...

Be Careful! Air Europa Are Contract Respecting Thieves
This is to warn all passengers of any airline and the clients of the Spanish Air Europa in particular.
On 1st September 2008 I was away in Chile and my wife, still working in the Dominican Republic where I had to return, bought me an Air Europa flight to Madrid, Spain from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. She paid local cash for the fare in the Dominican ... ...to Warsaw, Poland.
Soon afterwards Air Europa called off the flight between Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Madrid, Spain. Unfortunately for my wife and me, the news was bad and quite significant: Air Europa flight the next day didn’t suit us in any way, and thus the connections of Copa Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines had to be moved. The penalty was US$ 220. But our worries didn’t end there at all.
We immediately applied to Air Europa for ...

Advantages: cheap, no food smells Disadvantages: not cheerful, no food
I had never heard of Air Europa until I found a cheap flight advertised on e-bookers that fitted in perfectly with my requirements of a 4 night stay in Majorca.
The flights were very cheap £140 return for 3 people.
The flight out 19.35
The flight home 20.35
Though next day flights were over £200 (though still a bargain compared with BA (£455) and Easyjet (£300)
These were a lot better times than can generally get with package flights but did ... ...of travelling to Spain, then Air Europa definately provide that. But customer care is very low, though saying that as it was only a 2 hour flight I was looking more for reliablitiy than comfort!
It is worth checking regularly on expedia and e-bookers as prices seem to change almost daily.
By all means travel with these but dont expect any frills or smiles! ...

...weeks ago and it was Air Europa who we flew with, I wasn't expecting it as we had booked an Airtours holiday. I didn't think they were as good as Airtours for the following reasons- The two Airhostesses did speak english quite well, but did'nt smile at all, looked really bored and chewed gum!. The food was very poor .plus there was no film to watch on a 4 1/2 hour flight. They told people off for laughing and joking too loudly!.I felt that they were ...

Advantages: comfortable for the price Disadvantages: stops for refuelling
Having travelled with Air Europa 3 times I felt that this airline delivers pretty good customer service after my recent flight with an English Airline!!!!
There is enough room in the seats - not as crammed as one I could mention! - and the stewardess always look very well groomed and professional. I have had a slight comment on my last opinion of another Airline for saying that the uniforms and the turnout of the stewardess wasn't great - but sorry ... ...with them again. With Air Europa I've always found that they wear very smart uniforms and will wear hats and gloves when seeing passengers on and off the plane - not a necessity I know - but it looks professional and gives a good company image.
The plane itself was clean and tidy and the flight was well organised. Sweets are handed out at the take off and landing of all flights. Food was served before the movie was shown so that people could settle ...

...When I went on holiday here I stayed in San Miguel, this is a little bit away from Ibiza Town and San Antonio. This was my first holiday abroad and an excellent holiday, sucha beautiful place. The area I went to was a family area so it was good to be away from the night clubs because they're not really my thing, I may sound boring but some are just trashy nowadays.
When I flew here, I went with AirEuropa who were not the best airline but then I didn't care about the air line I just wanted to get there. The flight was about 2 hours long and then I landed in the airport and was taken to my hotel. What a nice welsome, the sun was shining and the sky was a clear blue colour, I couldn't wait to get to the hotel.
As soon as I arrived at my hotel it was quite late and tea time had already been but still I was given my tea which was...

..., Mytraval and Airtours. If you do not book a package holiday then the airlines that travel to Ibiza are Britannia, Avro, AirEuropa, British Airways and Iberia.

Advantages: Fast, efficient and excellent service. Well organised on boarding Disadvantages: If you get a delay, it can be costly :(
...I am writing this opinion on the fact that i recieved excellent service from Britannia. Basically i were 16 years old and were travelling to Malta on August 7th from Manchester. It was a dream holiday as it were just me and a few mates. The first thing i did worry was if there were to be any delays on our journey. This was obviously the first time i had flown with no parents. However Britannia flew us on their Boeing 767 in top style with great service. There was no turbulence and the entertainment service i recieved (360 Service) kept us occupied all the way to Luqa Airport. I have flown with many airlines (British Airways, Aireuropa, Monarch, Airtours International) and i must say that Britannia were the best. I really do recommend that you fly with this airline because the service is excellent. :)...
