This is my one and only experience of a stewardess actually greeting me at the cabin by surname...from memory!
Ok, it was club class, but still - that's quite impressive regardless. I've been on British Airway's club and had a steward stand next to me, scroll down a print out and make a poor effort at pronouncing my surname.
My only regret about this flight...it wasn't long enough! I was travelling from Bombay to Dubai and this is just over two hours. Plus, I was absolutely exhausted, so fell asleep for a while.
Anyway, the club class cabin is located on the upper deck if your flying on a 747. The upper deck is considerably quieter than down below - worth considering if the choice is available to you. The food was fantastic. I was served a tandori mixed grill, and I can still remember the fabulous flavour of the prawns to this day. If I could of asked for seconds, I would (and I probably could have).
And each time the steward/ess would serve me, it was always by name. This was just fantastic.
I'd heard a lot of horror stories about Air India before taking this flight, but after my experience, I would definitely try them again.
And of course, upon leaving, that name thing again (sorry to go on about this, but it really was a nice touch). A very memorable flight - highly recommended.
Travelling Air India economy class is a nightmare. The seats are cramped and uncomfortable, the lighting dim - hell, even the flooring was cheap linoleum from c. 1975. Glad to hear at least they pay attention to the few that shell out for Club Class.

A truly interesting and unusual read, but I have nonetheless opted for rating helpful, because you could have included a lot more detail about product and service quality. On thing I'd be interested in is Air India's safety record, which is supposed to be rather poor. Regards, Hans PS: Thanks for your kind comment on my BA op.

Advantages: An amazing experience for anyone interested in travel. India has it all and more. Disadvantages: The visa is only valid for 6 months. Otherwise I would have stayed for 12.
